anyone interested in a 1997 318ti with a not working engine? the engine blew up. i think because there was a leak on the engine oil and it eventually drained the oil.

I know you said you don't have the time to sell pieces but it will be well worth it in the end. You'll get alot more money that is everything would sell.

I don't see what's wrong with this car other than an engine that needs to be rebuilt/repaired. Why is that not an option?

oh, because the shop was asking me $3600 for the used engine. and i was told that i could get it a lot cheaper. the thing is, i dont know any shop around my area that installs engine for a lower price.

if i were you, i'd really do some hard searching in effort to find a good shop to drop in a used m44. you're going to get hit hard on a buying price because of the toasted engine i fear.

can anyone around the area help him find a shop? looks to be in the LA-Riverside area of CA.

Hey Kirby,

I live in Corona...PM me and I will give you some names of shops that I would recommend to look at your car...otherwise, if you are willing to part your car, I want dibs on the side mouldings! :) Lates...motorwerk

Oh ic. But if I'm going to put an engine in this car, I might as well change it with a more powerful engine. What are the ppossible engines that will fit this car? How nuch r they? Thanks.

Lots of good stuff on this forum about swaps...

also check out:

apparently they sell used engines (not rebuilt) for like 50% of the listed prices.

S52 engine. Then you have on fast ti. It would be worth it.

I agree. If your engine blew up 5 months ago, and if you lived about 1300 miles closer to me, I would've been more than happy to take it off your hands. Silver on Black? That's hot.

S52 swap ftw!

I'll sell you a M44 out of my '97 for $700 plus shipping. I thought I blew up the motor so I'm in the process of swapping in an S52... but I found out it was just a bad Crank sensor... Oooops. :-D

Crank sensor went while driving, causing the engine to stall at speed... but it was still dumping fuel... my guess is the CPS grabbed a reading, fired the ignition with tons of unburnt fuel in the cylinders, caused a huge backfire which made the boom that I thought was a piston getting imbedded into something. Further inspection showed that the motor is internally fine, as it turns over with a smooth motion. Crank sensor code came up on the SnapOn scanner... swapped with a known-good, and it fired right up.

If you are parting out, I am interested in your clears and head lights. Rear speakers too if it is the 10 speaker system.

Can you tell us miles, condition, options, service records, etc? If it has average miles (100k+) I'd say you're in the $2000 range max. I've seen 3 others go similarly.

Hey Kirby,

You'll probably get more if you sell part by part to tell you the truth. There's plenty of peeps out there that want stuff off your car. Sell me your ti side mouldings. I'll pick them up since I'm local and I got the cash in hand!!! :) PM if interested. Thanks! motorwerk

But a lot of people don't have the time/desire/means to part it out. Make him an offer on the whole kaboodle and part it yourself maybe?
