My diff is pretty much knackered so have obtained another from an M44 Z3.

I spoke to a garage this morning about swapping them and they quoted 4 hours!!!

Seems alot to me to unbolt the current one and replace with another.

Advise????

Simple. Do it yourself!

Four bolts on the drive shaft flange; 12 I think total for the half-shafts, four or five others mounting the diff. Four hours is reasonable; I'd expect it to take less, but when you are giving a quote, you want to be covered in case something goes wrong.

Get some fresh oil for it while you're at it....

they are likely doing it the "right" way and dropping the subframe. you may want to ask them what all they have to do. that's about the only way to properly torque the bolts holding the diff. that means they would need to disconnect the parking brake cables, the hydraulic brake lines, bleed the system ... you get the idea.

do it myself? whether is wet for the foreable future and i have no garage :(

so looks like it'll have to be done by them.

That 4hrs is worst case scenario and is capped too.

Just picked it up. looks in good nick other than the usual rust.

Tomorrow the wirebrush will be out in force followed by the first paint spray/brush (still debating whether to spray or brush it).
