The M3 tranny fits onto the four. You need the drive shaft as wel as the shift linkage/mount I believe. The rest is bolt in.

This is all I have for you...

I personally run the M3 motor with the ti trans. I use the ti drive shaft, and modified shifter holder and linkage. everything else botls in. If the M3 tranny is used with the M3 motor, you need the M3 drive shaft (and I assume the same is required with the 4-cylinder, as the M3 tranny is longer).

If you have the four cylinder, just keep the stock tranny. I have been running it behind my slightly modified M3 motor and have had no problems. I WILL replace it eventually, but it will be replaced with a 6-speed, not another 5-speed.

are all the m3 trannys 6speeds?

No.

Just the European EVO M3s got the 6-speed as far as I know. Maybe at the end of the E36 line they were all 6-speed or SMG in Europe; I'm not 100% sure about this. The US never got the 6-speed (from the factory) in the E36 range , nor did we get the SMG until into the E46 3-series (which is good, as the early ones have some serious problems...).

my tranny is popping out of first gear
a friend was going to sell me his because he was doing an engine swap (he had a 97 ti 5 speed)
i went ahead and ordered the clutch kit and other things i wanted to replace
my friend decided not to do the swap, so no tranny for me :frown:
i need a tranny and there's a few m3 trannys on ebay that go for about 450-500

my question is this: could i use the clutch kit i bought for my 318 with a m3 tranny and would i need anything special?

thanks
