Had a blast at my Halloween themed rallycross but it's looking like I blew both struts on the BeeMW. I have lots of plans for the car before next season, and new suspension is at the top of the list.

Hi all, revisiting this.

Yesterday I removed the front HR sport springs that were designed for the 4cyl (I have the 6 cyl swap) and replaced them with OEM 328is springs that are allegedly the "sport" springs. I gained about 3-3.5" up front which is perfect.

Strangely the car is now level front to rear (it was really raked forward before), and I'm having trouble deciding what rear springs to run. The options are either leave the H&R sport springs in place, or install the BMW 328is sport springs. Ideally I'll pick the softer spring rate, but as you know this information is nearly impossible to find. The 328is springs are taller (a little rake isn't the end of the world), but they feel stiffer than the H&R springs that were designed for the TI. My test was not scientific, as I just set a tool box on the spring setting on the floor, and pressed down on the box.

Any suggestions or insight?

The more digging I do the more confused I get. Below is an image of three rear springs. The left spring is allegedly from a 328is with the "sport" suspension (I think it is just a regular 328 spring and is not the sport). The middle spring is allegedly from a regular 325 (I got these used and they came with the front springs which are too small, so I think they must actually be from an M3). The right spring is the H&R lowering spring for the 318ti.

I think the H&R was the softest, but I opted for the middle spring as I read that these cars handle better on road and off with a really high rear spring rate.

I did find it odd that the coils for what I believe are the m3 springs, are closest in appearance to the H&R 318ti springs, where as the 328is springs have more coils and are taller. The car seems to have just a little rake, but no where near as bad as when I was running the flattened 4cyl H&R springs in the front.

There is nothing strange in what you are finding. You gotta remember that the 318ti has the e30 rear end, the rear shocks and springs are usually shorter than the regular e36 rear suspension. Especially shocks, you can get away with e36 rear springs - aftermarket etc, but the rear shocks are too long. If you are looking for rear springs look at z3 springs - same rear end as 318ti - or even just e30 rear end suspension components. The z3 springs could be too short and soft for your purpose though. Well the H&R ones will be for sure, maybe stock height ones will be better.
