Here is the run down. I have a 95 318Ti motor. I have bought OBD1 crank and cam sensors because they are long enough, and for some reason the OBD2 crank and cam sensors are short. I know now that I do need OBD2 sensors.

I also know if I wanna change the Cam sensor from a 318i, I would need the cam sprockets from the OBD2 318i. But I really dont wanna swap sprockets so Im looking for 96+ Cam and crank sensors... However, the crank sensor will have a short length wire which is why I brought up of the extending wires..

Someone told me its ok as long as the reuse the shielded wire or something. Im really stuck on this one. Im still always trying to figure out what do I need to get. I do a lot of research, I just thought if I posted on a website forum I would have some better luck or any leads to informational. Thanks for your time!

To add. My chassis is a 97 318i. I am using the following parts from my OBD2 318i.

Full harness
Two DMEs
Top part of intake manifold
Fuel rails, injectors, all sensors on manifold
Knock sensors, coolant sensor, oil temp. sensor
EVAP
Coil pack and wires.
all plugs, sensors, harness are from OBD2 from my original 318i motor, ect.

My motor is from a 95 318Ti
-The only thing from the 318Ti that came with motor was the Alternator.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conclusion: The car has no spark, has fuel smell, Turns over but no spark or start. Im using the crank and cam sensor from OBD1 318iC. I think thats why its not starting, no signal to the computer to start as if the cam gears and crank are ready to roll.

Based on your title and your first post I was lead to believe you were cramming in an M44 from a 96. I realize now that you are actually trying to run an M42 on the M44 DME.

Yeah, sorry about that I just fixed the title and first post. Its a 95 Ti motor in 97 318i chassis.

How is it going....?

Hi

I also have a 318i - got a convertible an am enjoying it a lot....

Wanted to know how your conversion was going and how long it's taken you.... Fancied putting a 318ti in mine too, but don't have bags of time and wanted to know if this was an easy swap, or I I has been pretty difficult.....

Thanks,

Rob

Hmm. It will be interesting to see how this works, there is enough difference in displacement and cam profile that It would not surprise me if the DME gets angry...

The DME has to match the EWS unit if its a 96.. Also the instrument cluster will need coded to the DME unless you brought the matching unit to the party.

I converted the motor to work for a 318i 96+ Harness and DMEs.

Im using my 318i 97 harness and DMEs. I converted my motor to work for it.
