What type of roof do you have???

I was posting elsewhere, and this idea struck me. The California top is quite rare, but I think sun-roof delete is rare as well, with the majority of ti's having a normal sun-roof.

Please fill in this poll, as I think we're ALL a little curious...

PS Mine is sun-roof delete.

Tyler 01-17-2006 12:00 AM

I have a normal sunroof on my 98. I believe some members that live in Austrailia have the glass sunroof which would've been cool on the ti.

aceyx 01-17-2006 12:00 AM

Is no sun-roof ordered considered a "delete"?

J!m 01-17-2006 12:06 AM

yep. No sun-roof is considered 'delete' even though it was an option, since basically all the ti's I've seen have a normal sun-roof...

The purpose of this poll is to see just who has the 'rare' set-up...

Rhys 01-17-2006 12:26 AM

I thought cars without a sunroof had air con instead, it's usualy either or.
Mine has a sunroof btw.

clex2 01-17-2006 01:08 AM

I have no sunroof, and on the 1995 Club Sport supposedly only 3 out of the 300 made had sunroof delete. Now I also have seen posted only 200 CS were made. Don't know which figure is correct, but rare nonetheless.

My base ti also has no sunroof, probably not a delete option, but a cost cutting measure on the cheapest ti in the line up.

robcarync 01-17-2006 03:30 AM

i have the normal sunroof! yay i rock!

I have a/c with a sunroof.

cali-ti 01-17-2006 04:12 AM

i have cali top and air con. hard to believe air con isn't standard now-adays.

GDB 01-17-2006 06:54 AM

I've got the Cali top aswell, but I also have the Cali package which was only available in 96. Hey, I gotta do something to make myself feel more rare after having the most common answer in this poll

Panzer_M 01-17-2006 08:16 AM

Club Sport w/ Sun roof.

96cali 01-17-2006 04:22 PM

Like the name says, '96 California Edition with soft top, a/c AND an air freshener.

Now that was a shame. I know Ben probably had no idea how rare that car was when he converted it, but if that happend to be MY car, I would have NEVER converted it, and found another to convert. My standard sport from 1998 is fairly common, but if it was a factory radio delete car (as I know of NO other tis with radio delete) I would not have converted it either...

Club Sports ARE rare, and the numbers put them on par with the 1995 M3 LTW (about 250 made, NONE had sunroof, but I know of one that had it added. [insert Napolean Dynamite "IDIOT, GAWD!" here])

GREX1969 01-17-2006 10:44 PM

I don't have a sun roof, but have air con. As we only get about 2 sunny days a year it is mainly used for demisting the car

Actually Ben did not convert it. He bought it that way. A guy named Albert Bossert originally purchased the car as a toy and quickly had it converted by Turner Motorsports. The motor came from a 20K mile wrecked '95 M3 owned by Richard Kurtz. Up until 4.5 years ago when Ben bought the car, it had only 30K miles on it. Ben put another 30K in the two years he owned it. In that time, he redid much of the car with RE upgrades. I've added a few more things over the years and only added less than 4k miles. IMHO, converting an e30 M3 is more sacriligious. In the ti, it just makes sense.

J!m 01-18-2006 04:05 AM

Interesting. I thought Ben did the swap...

But, although I do agree cutting an E30 is punishable by death in my eyes, the ClubSport ti was manufactured in lower total numbers, and is therefore destined to be the 'ugly duckling' collector car. Low entry cost, but very collectable down the road. Not within five years, more like 20 years when an unmolested example could go for more than original purchase price...

You can imagine my horror when I find people who cut up E36 M3 Lightweights... I'd gladly kill for one. No problem at all.

clex2 01-18-2006 04:30 AM

J!m,

Ben did a swap on another ti back when he was part of UUC. It was a black ti with the regular body work. He put a 3.2 into that one. There was a write up in Bimmer Mag on the swap.

clubsport95 01-18-2006 04:52 AM

95 clubsport schwarz with sunroof delete... someone told me this might be the only black one without a sunroof.. anybody know how true this is ??? and to think i was going to sell it...

I have every issue of Bimmer since the first, and I have that article.

I thought it was a white ti? Maybe I'm wrong; haven't seen it since it was in the mag...

clex2 01-19-2006 12:32 AM

Look at Bimmer August 1999, page 89.

J!m 01-19-2006 01:21 AM

Seven years ago? I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday!

I believe you...

andyman7931 02-22-2006 06:52 PM

Henry80 03-03-2006 10:31 AM

Sunroof Delete for me, with AC tho :D

2ndBimmer 03-04-2006 01:10 AM

Standard sunroof.

Really wish for a glass one.

BobbyDigital 03-04-2006 01:38 AM

Yeah, the glass would be nice. I have the sunroof. And a/c. Is that weird or something, or is that only in the UK - where its one or the other?

bachic55 03-18-2006 08:00 PM

I have a 1995 318ti club sport, with no sun roof : )

Bachic55,

supposedly there are only 3 1995 Club Sports out of 300 with the sunroof delete. We have two here, yours and mine. Now we just need the 3rd one to post.

GDB 03-19-2006 02:00 AM

A little OT, but does anyone know how much weight the Cali top adds?

cobaltbloo 03-19-2006 05:50 AM

I have a 95ti with a sunroof also with air conditioner. My interior panel on the sunroof is busted so i cant use it as vent anylonger...it just slides into the roof if im not careful...what a pain in the _ _ S! anyone know how to fix this problem?.

I had to replace mine last year and had to buy a whole new unit. I don't know the exact weight, but it felt like it was about 20-30 pounds. Not very heavy.

96cali 03-22-2006 07:24 PM

I would imagine it reduces weight especially compared to a regular sunroof (all the roof steel plus a motor). Weight increases with convertibles are more due to chassis reinforcements.

clubsport95 03-30-2006 02:20 AM

1995 318ti clubsport black sunroof delete

FATHER 03-30-2006 02:34 PM

My TI is non sunroof, but one month ago I pay about $650.00 to install a universal glass sunroof, look and function fine, it open inside the roof or outside , and when I off the car it close automatic.......

halobeamin 03-30-2006 04:19 PM

i have the sun-roof delete, but want a sunroof

oh where oh where could you be, sunroof??

ill take good care of youuuu, sunroof
