Differential Jacking

OK, I need some advice.

Took the car to a recommended place to have two new rear tires put on. Sat down to eat the breakfast I brought. When the car blocking my view of my car pulled out I saw the guy had put a floor jack under the diff and lifted the whole back end. Since both wheels were off I decided it was too late to say anything. The guy who recommended them had a problem with his C6 diagnosed and fixed there.

Should I have any concerns about this? It just seems wrong to do on this car. I know it was done regularly years ago, but I'm not sure how good the casting on our differential is.

Thoughts?

no worries, if you had a finned cover then I would worry but I would recommend some 2x4 blocks of wood just for peace of mind.

I used to jack up the car by the diff, don't anymore.
You do need to be careful where on the diff you are lifting from.
I wouldn't worry about the housing. I'd worry if it was lifted on the cover side alone.

Yea, its fine, our shop does it all the time. If you have a finned cover though, i would never lift there even with wood or any other material.
