Catalytic help

Hi - long time follower, relatively new poster. I (my kids actually) have a 1996 318ti, automatic and approx 180K miles. Check engine light is on and tried everything except replacing the catalytic. Car will not pass CT emissions in its current state. Looking to see if there is any recent experience on good replacement converters? I know an original BMW unit will cost around $1,000, BavAuto is about $400, MagnaFlow is less. Are there any other to consider? Can anybody offer advice (good or bad) on replacement units that they have used. Appreciate any help,

I have a Magnaflow replacement on a few of my BMWs and they seem to hold up for 4-5 years of solid driving. My last M44 Cat ran $223 installed in Sacramento.

I did once replace a cat on my 533i and paid for a BMW cat. I can't see doing that again at $1400+
