tiFreak's track car build so after looking for a second 318ti for over a year and settling on an E30 for the past year I've finally found one, not only that but it was about a half hour drive away from me. I bought it from ///MptyPockets on here and it's a 96 sport package with 168k and a salvage title, I can see some damage on the frame but it doesn't go down the road crooked so I'm happy with it. Only real problem is a broken sway bar bracket and a few cheap cosmetic repairs (headliner tacked up, door moldings screwed on, etc.) but mechanically it's in good shape and it's recently had the two plastic cooling fitting replaced. on to the pics euro plate holder left over from the PO, it also has angel eye headlights that don't seem to be hooked up http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...k/100_1064.jpg it has 17" contour replicas in the pics, those weren't part of the deal so I need to get those back to the PO, I have some 16" contour reps I'm going to put on it http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...100_1065-2.jpg pics from earlier today when I started modding deleted the rear wiper http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...k/100_1066.jpg replaced the worn out shift knob with my knock off AC Schnitzer knob I used to have in my E30 http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...k/100_1067.jpg stuck my euro plate in the holder, put the tow hook in (still need to drill a hole in the trim) and pulled the busted foglights out the front bumper's a little busted up but it's nothing some zip-ties and duct tape can't fix http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...k/100_1068.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...k/100_1069.jpg I also found a thing of touch up paint in the trunk so I went ahead and touched up a few spots, once I can transfer the plates off my E30 I'll be able to get it to work with me and I can really get started on mods |

no major updates today, put my 318ti.org and a couple random stickers on, the E30 should be sold tomorrow so I can transfer the plates and get started EDIT: oh yeah, the touch up paint I found, apparently when you leave it in your car it tends to change colors so now I have a bunch of dark silver spots all around the car :lol: |
major update, it's finally registered and insured and I'll be taking it to work with me tomorrow to get started minor update, I got my official Sports Car Club of Vermont number magnets in the mail today, I had to take the door moldings off so they would sit flat, the PO had them on with screws into the door. in his defense the metal rail that held the clips was all rotted away and there wasn't any other way to attach them without getting completely new moldings I think I made a good choice for a number :biggrin: http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...k/100_1080.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...k/100_1081.jpg |

I think Josh aka "thesk8nmidget" used 318 as a side number. As for the door moldings, mine were rotted too(Michigan car). There was literally rust stains dripping down the doors from the metal brackets inside the moldings. Anyway, rip the metal out of the moldings and glue them on with 3M windo-weld. Just put a small dab on each end and a another every 10 or so inches in between. That stuff is awesome. It dries rubbery, sticks to painted surfaces and heck it's used to glue windshield in place, it ain't comin off unless you take it off. |
I remember that, I think I probably got the idea from him :lol: I'll probably keep the moldings off just so I can get my magnets to stay on flat, it won't look good but I've got my cordoba ti for when I want to look good :biggrin: |
Perhaps you could rattle can a black stripe where the moldings used to be, but make it thin enough so the regular moldings will cover it up when you're not racing. Or even better, use some wide electrical tape. I think I've seen rolls of black vinyl tape in the pistriping isle at the auto parts store:wink: |
the black paint's actually not a bad idea, I might end up doing that. the old moldings are pretty messed up so I don't think I'll be putting them back on |
