There should be a 4 pin connector on the driver side you have to take off that knee panel. When my taillights went out it was that pin connector that went bad.

The problem is that you don't have "break" lights, you have "brake" lights. :icon_poke LOL

maybe his break lights are braken?

just to be sure, are you hitting the brakes with the car running? I've found that they don't work at all when the car is off, the work intermittently with key on, engine off, and they work just fine with the engine running, not sure why it works that way but I'm just making sure

LOL didnt realize i spelled break.. but yeah the car is on when i hit the brakes.. thanks RoadRash for fixin it and ill check on that 4 pin connector.. any1 know the part #?

No problem... I actually changed it to save "1996 328ti" from having to do it because I know using "break" for "brake" is one of his pet peeves. LOL

I have far too many grammar/spelling pet peeves to try to fix any of them when I see them. I just try to ignore the lousy spelling I see online. heh heh

To get back on topic here... while you're working on your brake lights, you should do the "extra brake light mod." There's info in the Knowledge Base section.

That it is.

1. Brake lights worked.
2. Installed mod.
3. Brake lights not working.
4. Removed mod.
5. Brake lights still not working.

Not sure if this will work, but maybe disconnect both rear light clusters.
Does the 3rd brake light work?

trikzta 04-14-2010 09:29 PM

no the 3rd brake light wont work either

Is it possible that you connected the wrong spots to do the mod and blew the brake bulbs?

doubt it i followed the instructions to the last letter and it looks exactly the same ... and as for burnin the bulbs if they were burned out when i turn the lights on the rear lights wouldnt light up.. am i right?

Have you swapped the non-working bulbs into a socket that you know works, and vice versa? Make sure the bulbs are good before you start chasing down other more complicated issues.
