For the exhaust portion of the swap, what would be custom? Everything after the headers? Also, would the front struts and springs need to be replaced even with an aftermarket 318 setup? This question is for an m50.

90 degree non return valve on brake booster line where it attaches to the manifold.

On my car, just the catback portion needs to be custom, because it is shorter on the ti / chassis is different.

I have the front suspension from the donor m3. You'll want a beefier front suspension for the extra weight of the m50, and larger brakes than stock as well.

I have a question about the parts needed? do you need to replace the Driveshaft? If so can you specify what parts match with what setup combination? I am having a dilema in finding the correct information for my setup. I have an S52 from a 98 M3 complete with 5 speed transmission. If the driveshaft does require replacing, which one would be the correct matching part for this. I have searched quite a bit but nothing specific, other than the model of the car it came from and from what I am finding out parts change with the year of the car.

Thanks

off the top of my head the driveshaft you'd want to go with the ZF transmission would be from a manual 328i. The front flange on your DS is sized for the Getrag output shaft and it won't fit the output shaft of the ZF trans. Some M3 driveshafts probably would fit also, but you have to check what kind of flange it has on the back to fit your differential (Some M3 come with a 6 bolt CV joint rear flange).

If you are using the ZF trans from the M3 then use the Front M3 section of the driveshaft and your stock ti rear section. This has been covered in many threads on the subject.

So am I incorrect in thinking that the 328 and m3 complete DS would fit ti? I'm certain one our swapped ti's here has one of those in it. Definitely does not have a hybrid one.

You have to check the rear bolt pattern. Tis use 4, 328 can have 4 or 6, m3 should have 6.

The reason I brought this up is because after doing extensive research I found that depending on the year of the car each part number may vary. The same part seems to have different part numbers for different years and model. In some cases I found 1 part number showing m3,5 series, 7 series as also being compatible. Stating that 4dr, 2dr, auto and manual all use the same part. I want to be sure of this before coughing out the cash for this.

PrussianMotors 10-22-2010 04:38 PM

4dr/2dr is the same driveshaft for E36. Manual and auto I have never seen being interchangeable. it looks like you're best off trying to get a 328 manual ds w/ 4 bolt flange on the back. or make a hybrid.

I recommend using RealOEM.com for interchange information when a seller provides you the BMW part number
