Downing Atlanta supercharger
 

I am looking into putting a Downing Atlanta Supercharger on my 1995 318ti. I was looking for some comments from people that have put this kit on their car.

Night and day compared to a stock M42 or M44 even. It is argued that the vehicle will drive more similar to an M3 in terms of power. And quite possibly a little quicker. I have never driven an M3, So I couldnt tell you how the difference feels. Im sure the M3 has more torque. But the DASC top end is like "seee ya later".

As an owner, I couldnt disagree. Im planning on eventually upgrading to a smaller pulley and other things you can do to get more boost.

If you get a deal on it, it would be totally worth the money. Most would argue just to buy a bigger motor and do a swap if your going to fork out a few thousand. But some have a thrill for making 4 cylinders go really fast!

There is a ton of info on this very site, do your homework and make the decision thats best for you.

Thanks a lot! I have been doing some looking with a motor swap and i found a M50 how would that compair to my 4 cylinder with a DWSC?

Personally, I would not go with an M50. But thats just me. If Im pulling my engine out of my bay....it will be for major HP gains. And if you score on a solid donor, its great for part out. So you could possibly make a good portion of that back. I've heard an M50 will only get you around 170- 190whp with mods. My Dasc/intended motor is just fine for a DD. But then again I scored with a purch already installed. Before my 98' ti was totaled, my intentions were to swap with an s52/obdII. there is plenty of information if you search. Good luck.

moderate power with great reliability... if you think you'll be happy with 170-190hp, go for it!

however, if you have high horsepower inclinations, go with S52 swap & then slap a super / turbo charger onto that.

+1 My next project is a I-6 with turbo. 200HP is great for about 3-4 months if your me. I'm turbo right now and it's is great, I also speent big so I could boost big.

I will do a I-6 with big boost so I have no more I can do with a BMW. Then I can sleep at night
