So I started building an OBD2 S50 Ti

I'm not one for many words but I'll try.
I bought 97 Hellrot Ti for Autox and track days, I had no intention of doing anything to it and had an s50b30 us at a machine shop for a complete rebuild for my e30. Unfortunately my e30 was lost in an accident b4 I got the opportunity to swap my s50 in so I said f**k it and decided to swap my Ti. So the gist of it is I got a 95' M3 S50b30 with zf5speed to drop in. Send motor away to be cleaned, bored, decked, balanced, and bottom assembled. After a long wait I got the motor back and now the fun begins. I just got the motor back 2 weeks ago and have so far gotten it timed and and almost buttoned up. Now to pictures.

Very nice !!

More progress today. I pulled the vacuum port from the s50 manifold and put the obd2 IAT sensor in its place, I had to use a drill bit to make the hole deeper inside for it to click into place but worked great also snugged down the valve cover will be putting the wiring harness on soon

Before you say "what about the vacuum port for FPR?" I ordered a part on eBay to use the threaded hole for obd1 sensor http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11...0a9edfc3e1.jpg

Made some more progress this past week, things kinda came to a standstill when I found out I had the wrong wiring harness. So this was the deal, I had a obd2 harness from a 1999 donor car, all e36 engine harnesses made after 11/98 are considered a late model style harness. it seems that bmw changed the style of the crank position sensor after November of 1998 harnesses made after those years were updated with a newer style crank position harness connector. Since I am running a s50 which originally is an obd1 motor I had to use a special crank position sensor that was used on the European model E 36. The connector for that sensor is square and the same as earlier model obd2 harnesses. After sourcing another harness that I can use, work resumed as usual. You may be asking yourself why didn't I just switch the connector from one harness to the other or just make my own connector? If it was as easy as splicing a couple of wires together I would have just done that, the thing is when BMW updated the new sensor they also changed the power requirements to that sensor and how it talks to the ECU and the operating voltage for the crank position, it uses 12-volt signal now, so they had to create an adapter harness for the older model e36s in order to make that new sensor work.

I was also able to service my 3.23 lsd that I got for the build. I ordered all condor mounts and bushings for the car and was able to pressed in the diff bushing. Now some pictures
That's crank trigger sensor I'm using

The only thing I'm having a problem understanding is that how or what is needed to convert an obd1 s50 to a obd2 s50? Will it be legal?

The difference between obd1 and obd2 is all sensors and software just about any motor can run obd2 if you have the right parts. As far as it being legal, it actually is because I'm bringing the motor up to the same emission standard as the car. Since car is 97 and obd2 it would be illegal to run s50 obd1. But at end of day who is checking these things I don't have inspections to pass.

More progress made yesterday, I pulled the m44 out along with driveshaft and exhaust.
The teardown went smoothly with no real surprises
