Feeler 325TI how much?

Sorry I dont post much here but i guess if i want the maximum spotlight this site is the place. I currently have a S50ti. This coming spring break I'm going to take the s50 and build it for my turbo 325. I have an extra 2.5 block in the garage with around 110K on it. The plan is to install it on my TI. Before it goes in it will have fresh headgasket and head cleaning done.

When i get this thing driving prefectly flawless, what can i expect to get out of it? This is going up for sale cause i dont really want to pay insurance on something i hardly drive. Cause of reason turbo bug..........

Any suggestion of price would be greatly appreciated

just a guess but id say this would go for atleast 15k-17k

mohaughn 03-06-2007 05:07 AM

I don't see that happening... The motor only bumps the cost of the car up like 1k maybe 1.5k.

Look in the for sale section. There was a very very nicely modified 330ti and the seller was begging for somebody to take him from him for less than 10k.

Given that you can get a good chasis to start with for 4-6k and drop in a 2.5liter for just a few grand I would not expect to get more than 10k.

Sorry.. It was a 332ti, M motor.. And he sold it for 9.5k. The new owner turbocharged the engine, fix everything, and has the car up for sale again... Asking 11k.

I'll adjust my original estimate and say maybe 7-9k.

branden 03-06-2007 06:28 PM

It it's nice enough, then I'm sure there is going to be someone out there willing to pay over 10k. Easily.

Its always hard to judge these things. Its one thing if you have receipts for the swap work from a well known shop or the dealer, but when you've done all the work yourself, buyers get worried.

These cars are getting pretty old and when they've undergone that much surgery, buyers can be hard to come by.

Haha this garbage makes me laugh.

I've got a stack of receipts from the shop I work at (known for BMW only engine swaps) and the local BMW dealer about 2 freakin inches thick from my swap and I put my car up for 9k. Its gone through a lot since I had it posted but its OBD-II no check engine light and nothing is stock, all Motorsports parts and factory BMW upgrades like M3 dash swap, Diff, Motor, brakes, suspension, wheels etc and I got bs'ed for 4 months.

Expect to realistically sell it for like 5500-7500 max depending on other upgrades, the rarity of the upgrades, condition of the paint etc..
Would probably go over better on bimmerforums and make sure you post TONS AND TONS AND TONS of pictures.
WARNING WARNING: YOU'LL GET PHONE CALLS OUT THE ARSE BUT 99% ARE SERIOUS AND MAKE SURE THE BUYERS HAVE A DRIVERS LICENSE.

What's funny about the price? It costs a lot more to do a good swap than what the car is worth after the swap is complete. People expect upgrades to just keep adding to the value of their car, and it doesn't. You'd make far more money tearing the car apart and selling it as parts than you do selling it as a complete car.

If you can do all of the labor yourself, and you can find a rear end wrecked donor car you could do a swap for around $1.5-2k. So if the base car is only worth 4k, why should it sell for more than 6-7k? The labor, if you have to pay for it is almost always a wash. Dredder has a very nice car so I would expect it to sell for more than 7k.

Scabbz- Last time you had your car up for sale it was two different colors and needed body work and some other stuff. I would think if you had all of that fixed you could sell it for the same as Dredders car. You'll have to deal with a lot of BS bidders, and it may take awhile. But eventually you'll find somebody who will buy it.

I just wrote a big reply, but then realized it was stupid. Theres nothing funny about the price, its the replies to this dudes thread. Half the people on here (note i said HALF) list their parts mods as clear corners and cold air intake. While that being respectable, and none of my business, its like they dont have a clue about BMW value and effort it takes to build a car. When I look at a car that is heavily modified, I think about the person sitting there with a box of tools for hours upon hours with bleeding knuckles and love of what they are doing. In my opinion, you're buying character and ability. In the end, a cars value is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it and thats where it stops. Whether its modified or not. This reply has gotten too personal anyways.

Anyways, good luck on the sale.

A modified car isn't an investment, it's a toy. Don't ever think that you'll get any kind of return on a modification, ever.

And damn right you'll get low balled when you try to sell it, nobody wants to inherit someone else's nightmare, which is what typically happens when buying a modded car.

I renovated a house and spent 9 years with bleeding knuckles, etc. It did add value to the house but the new owner wouldn't know the business end of a hammer if it fell on his head. He has no clue what it took to make it that nice. I feel the same way about my house as you do about your car and yes, "who" does it makes all the difference in quality. In general, people on this forum don't typically pay full value on non-modded cars either.

campaiar 03-09-2007 09:24 PM

I'm not sure you can compare automotive mods to home renovation. Vehicles depreciate, and most home appreciate over time. I'm sure you feel the same way about your work on both, but they are just not the same when you talk about resale.

scabzzzz, sorry if I offended or made you upset. I suppose I'm a bit more skeptical about heavily moded cars than most given that I know what can go wrong, or what methods people to take to get to the finished product. Dusten's right about inheriting someone's nightmare, it can be very costly.

Agreed. Sorry if my point was not clear. I was really speaking to the effort put into a labor of love is rarely appreciated by an outsider or someone who has not walked in your shoes.

BTW if the car is comparable to engine in milage and well sorted out it might bring around $7-7.5k IMO. Has alot to do with the options, condition, etc. I would think the 2.5 would add $1000 to the overall value.

M3_KILL3R 03-10-2007 01:11 AM

i got my car with 140k on it ...in EXCELLENT condition with custom, almost 1 year reupholstered leather interior...guy put in 4k to just make it look nice...new paint only 3 months old and i got it off him for 4800 so getting 7k for the car is again a steal
