Anyone replaced the fuel sender?

Hi Everyone

My gas gauge is reading crazy, it works but is inaccurate. Does the sender get replaced by going in through the trunk and pulling out? How complex is the project?

Thanks
Eric

Pretty sure it's under the seat.

Right side, under rear seat. Fuel pump is on the left side.

Under rear passenger seat bottom cushion, the fuel pump and level sender are in one assembly on my 1996.

Here is a pic of my 232k mile fuel pump/level sender.
The fuel gauge sender is in the white rectangle.

Before you replace the fuel pump/sender, you might try adding a can of Techtron fuel treatment to your next tank of gas. I read that advice in a Mike Miller column in Bimmerworld. My wife's Z-3 gauge was bouncing all over the place and the additive fixed it pretty quickly. Cheers, John
