Heated seat install instructions

i ordered the heated seat install kit (bmw pn# 52 11 9 402 814) and got these installation instructions from my dealer (vaheh at crevier bmw, he's very helpful!). i thought others might find them useful. the information (and entertainment) provided at this link is also useful: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/int...t_install.html.

There was also a word document at

I'm thinking about doing the same upgrade. I'd love to know how it goes for you. My mechanic wanted aroudn $900.00 in labor + parts to do this install. I'd figure I can do this myself and save a ton of cash. Your thoughts?

the kit was $416 from crevier bmw in CA so you'd be saving around $500. follow the link above to the unoffcialbmw.com article and read what that guy went through (as i don't yet have any of my own painful experiences to add to it :P) and see if that's worth $500 to you. also consider your own skills and what value you put in doing it yourself (knowledge gained, feeling of accomplishment, you like to work on your car as a hobby, etc). i found that i wanted to try it myself for those reasons. maybe i'll change my mind afterwards, but i'm guessing it'll all be worth it the first time i feel heat on my butt :)

btw, vaheh at crevier said something like the kit i ordered was the last one in the states he could find in the system. that may or may not change, not sure. if you're even THINKING about it, i'd start looking around to see if you can still get it. if none are available, it may be a moot point. hopefully you can still get it.

Was heat available with cloth seats? Any reason not to add? Like settin' my undies on fire?

It was an option with all seats.
It is nice when you get into a car that is 20F.

even when it's not really cold out, the warm heat on your back is nice when driving (using the low setting on the switch).

20F? that's still kinda warm, isn't it? :P now i need a remote switch to turn the seat heat on from inside so it's all ready warm when i get in :)

i checked with my dealership and there isn't any kit in america and it's discontinued. Oh well i know there are other kits i could put in but i'll search junk yards i guess.

Maybe if you are ice fishing on Lake Winnebaggo. 20F is pretty cold first thing in the morning.:)

There's five sets left in Germany, got one coming for my M3 :)

Gee How did you order it? Care to let me know? Thanks!

Ordered as a VOR, so that they'll actually transer the set over. Since there are none in the US, if you put one on a normal stock order it'll never show up. Call Brad (614-889-2571 x4141) at Midwestern Auto Group if your local dealer is a PITA, that's my local parts rep, great guy.

Is it possible to remove the elements from the stock sport seats (black/gray cloth) and install them into vaders? with all the connections of course? Just wondering... since it's so hard to find vaders period.... it's wishful thinking that I'd find manual vaders with heated seats.

I thought the seats come already wired for heated seats, and its just a matter of paying more at the dealer to instal the switches and wire them up? Cause i noticed some sort of box under my seats, looks like a relay.\\\

anyone know what this is??

Not sure what the relay is but they don't come wired. The first 2 posts in this thread have instructions.
