Other Affordable Coilover Kit - what do you guys think?...
 

Hi I have been searching for an affordable coilover kit for my 95' 318ti HB... I want to hear from you guys on what do you guys think about this products in regards to quality longevity and ride quality and durability... My car is going to be a daily driver (city & occational long drive) I like to drive my car low but I'm looking for a very comfortable and sporty ride quality... Here is what I found so far... Please note that all of this are below $1,000 budget :wink:

If you're only DDing the car and the occasional touring day, why on earth are you looking at coilovers? My opinion, for what it's worth, would be save some money, and hassel and get a setup designed for your needs. I would recommend Billy sports with HR sport springs if you are looking for a smooth but lowered ride. That is definitely the tried and true favorite among most. However, if you are wanting the ability to be able to move your ride height up and down occasionally and that is the only reason you are looking at coilovers, I would go with Rokkor coilovers. As long as you are not "slamming it" but do a moderate drop to just below stock height, the springs are fairly soft allowing for more cushion in the ride; definitely more soft than you will feel with any other coilovers. If you max them up or down though you will ruin the comfort.

All in all, Billies + HR sports or Rokkors depending on what you feel is most important to you.

I had bils/H&Rs on my car, it was not even remotely comfortable. They are just valved wrong for the E36 and ti. I don't know how bilstein got it so wrong, but if you search you'll find I'm not the only person with that experience.

A friend of mine has racelands on his Mk1 rabbit, they are laughable to say the least. Granted, he has it slammed to the ground but they bounce like you wouldn't believe. He is currently looking into a set of ground controls that are properly designed for what he wants.

I currently have TC Kline SAs and they are much much better than I expected from a coilover. If I turn them up they are great for autox, if I turn them down they are great for DD. I have gotten a lot of compliments on the suspension from autoxers and other ti owners. Not saying they are the best, not at all, but go for a ride in a car with them and you'll understand why they are better.

While I am not yet convinced of the quality, you might want to check out BC racing coils, they seem to have good reviews and the seller is honest about where they are made. All the other stuff you listed sounds like junk.

Can't go wrong with Konis and a ground control coilover conversion either, gives you a decent ride and adjustable height.

vote here for BC Racing. Ive had them on my Z3 for over 2 years now..can do street or race very well, stiff without being harsh on the street. looking at picking up another set for my ti daily driver.
