Engine crane

Anyone recommend a good engine crane? I couldn't find much reviews on these I'm checking out.

Anyone in the MAR know a good place to rent one?

Jeez man, just get your brother to hook you up at Tischer...

I've heard good and bad things about Harbor Freight, more good than bad. The bad things all seemed to be from people with the "you get what you pay for" mentality. I honestly don't know of any places that rent engine cranes.

When do you take delivery of the motor? When do you want to have it installed by?

Edit- check CL there are some ads on there for engine hoists.

Hey thanks Dave

I wish I could get the hookup, but with tools I would have to see soemone else, because even my brother has trouble gettin hook ups on tools and stuff. I want to get the motor maybe next weekend, or this weekend if I'm crazy enough. If all else fails, I'll pick up a new crane just for the sake of having one maybe I can rent out and use for anything over here whenever I need even after the swap

Oh yeah, I saw one just sittin outside of the Sunoco a few blocks away :shifty

maybe I can ask if they rent out.

I have used the harbor freight one, it works fine for what it is, just make sure you get a load leveler.

Figure you can save on shipping if you get one local.

8 ton ram, thats crazy!

budget76 03-27-2009 06:32 PM

8 ton is completely unnecessary for anything besides the huge diesels.

My dad and I went with a 2ton from pep boys/one of the autoparts chains. It's been great. It is plenty strong to pull a 800lb International Harvester motor without flinching, with the arm fully extended. it'll be more than enough for most any motor a normal person has.

Go rent one for cheap.
