2.5L swap, 2.8L swap, or M3 swap

how much can you realistically do eahc of those swaps for the ti, I mean I figure i could find an m engine for about 4500 with a tranny if i get lucky but then comes everythign else could the 328 engine be cheaper to get or is it not worth it to do?

somewhere ... somehow ... i imagine steve's fingers typing ... steve? :)

(he has a 2.8 in his ti in case you're just thinking i'm a rambling insane person :p)

Is that the engiine on eBay? I'd say if you are going to do a swap you might as well go with the 3.2. The easiest and most bang for the buck is a DASC. I guess a lot depends on how much labor you will do yourself.

The best all around way is to buy a ti with the conversion done already. :)

the dasc is the best bet you think, i really wanna get a good amount of power out of my ti but apparently nothing helps it except the dasc

Dredder 04-02-2005 04:04 PM

dasc = ~160whp stock no mods $3395 not including labor
mosselman = ~150whp stock no mods( i dunno retail price)
swap m3 = ~190whp no mods (me $5500 including labor)

I dunno about you guys but i think this is the only way to go. Raima 318ti has over 300whp but i bet you he paid more than than the $5500 for his custom kit. Now an m3 swap pretty much has greatest potential when it comes to power upgrade. Look around BFC and you well see m3's being in the super car status. For all you DASC owner, how much would an afterrcooler upgrade from IAAS realy give you in power. If you have an m42 engine, you really dont have much option but stock dasc or custom turbo and piggyback computer.

anyone have specs on the weight differences between the 4 and 6? be interesting to know how much it'll throw off the weight balance.

which one you install can very much depend on what your final goal is. if you'll want more power even than a stock m3 engine will give you, i think the m3 swap is the only way to go. if the power the DASC or mosselman is all you want, then it may well not be worth the cost of doing an engine swap. to each his own :)

5500 for the m swap youd haver to find a good deal on a n engine and tranny what else would you need to do the m swap as well, all the little things and such

Dredder 04-02-2005 08:09 PM

goto eurodepot.com and they have m3motors from 2400+ and up. Thats complete motor including accessories. Not including transmission.

thanks for the site i think im going to do the 328 swap, anyone on here with track times?

Dredder 04-03-2005 07:04 AM

I believe the site admin has that for a swap. If 1996 328Ti means 2.8 then he might. If your looking for an engine why not jusy buy an m3. I know a guys here in portland that has a 98 m3 engine complete for less than 3k minus transmission.

Adog2107 04-03-2005 10:23 PM

did you use the euro depot when you bought your m engine if you did the swap i htink i read in a post before that you did

Dredder 04-04-2005 03:14 AM

No i didnt do the swap. A local BMW only shop here in portland perform all the work.
