Belt squeaking after applying belt conditioner? Is there such a thing as too much belt conditioner? May have been overly generous with it because the drive belt around the alternator and power steering has started squeaking, any idea what the source may be? |
I've generally been advised against using belt conditioner on the belts. From past research, IIRC, a squealing belt could mean that it's loose and needs to be tightened. If your belt is cracking or due for a replacement, I would just replace it - they're cheap and easy to replace. |

I had have had that on several of mine. It turns out that even if the belt is not cracked (the next stage) it is aged and glazed. The hard glaze against the metal pulley = squeak. The only way out is replace the belt(s). If all the under bonnet rubber is the same age - Think about doing the hoses and coolant at the same time. |
I didn't even know "belt conditioner" existed. What the heck? Must be a thing from a bygone era? |

Right. Y tho? It's 2019, put the old one in landfill and get new belt. |
