99 318ti Sport (project/parts car) FS SOLD 1999 318ti Sport (California Sun Roof) 200k on the body - about 25k on the motor Metric Mechanic's 2.0 FI M44 motor w/Hayabusa valve springs *motor put together by MM* 9.8:1 compression 258' intake MM cam 42 lb. injectors - installed by MM HD fuel pump - installed by MM DASC w.3' pulley @ 15psi (3.2 pulley included @ 12 psi) *snout shaved of crudely by me, to accommodate a 3 inch pulley* SNOW System w/ control unit in glove box - installed by MM SAP emulator - installed by MM 3.45 LSD Billstein PSS coils Stromung Exhaust DS1's (+5th DS1 for a spare) X-Brace Front & Rear H&R adjustable sway bars SAP delete - by MM ASC+T delete - by MM A/F gauge - installed by MM Boost gauge - installed by MM MM's LTW flywheel SSI Stealth Underpanel (never installed) OEM rear sun shade (orig clips missing) I bought the car in Sep 2001, and owned it for the past 12 years. Supercharged it in 2007, then in 2009 got a new Metric Mechanic M44 2.0 FI motor. I installed the motor but then sent the car to MM for Snow System installation, tuning, and dyno - as I couldn't get it running right myself. Car was a monster and ridiculously fast when I got it back from MM. Stock MK5 GTIs and E36 328s were a joke compared to it. Drove well for about a year and a half, then on one particularly hard run, the timing slipped. The MM single timing chain which was on the car at the time was also damaged by the sprockets, and was replaced back with the OEM double timing chain. For some reason I never got the car to run quite right afterwards. It was still very quick, just with a lumpy idle and hesitation from time to time. I was assured that mechanically, the engine was 100% though, by the shop that adjusted the timing and replaced the chain. Long story short, I got tired of the whole ordeal and expense, and got myself back into a VAG in 2010, and never looked back. 318 was left & remained parked in my dads garage since Nov 2010. Finally picked up the 318 last week, as my dad wanted it off his property, drove it from Fort Lee, NJ to my house in Monmouth County... 50 miles. Car drove very rough, but it never stalled, overheated, or died. Washed it, cleaned it up, and now I'm putting it up for sale as a PARTS/ PROJECT car. From what I noticed in the past few days: Loud continuous squeal from the engine bay (most likely an aged belt or idler pulley - possibly a supercharger pulley, however unlikely). Throttle body intake booth is pretty cracked up and thorn, which most likely contributes to the rough running (vacuum leak). Brakes seem weak - long pedal. Shifter is loose and sloppy - could use new linkage. AC needs re-charging. A/F gauge needs recalibrating or resetting. ABS Light on (rear break sensor). Airbag light on (aftermarket steering wheel). Tires look good, but are in fact 4 years old and should be replaced, as I do not consider them safe based on sheer age. Windshield chipped - needs replacing Esthetically, it looks Ok for a 14 year old car. Far from perfect, but solid. It has 2 small cancer rust spots I noticed, easily mended. It had a total of 3 recordable accidents in its life time, that I am aware of: One before I owned it (not sure of extent of damage) One fender bender in 2002 in Fort Lee (me) One 180' backwards into a curb on some black ice (me) Selling the car as a 'parts / project' car, as I don't wanna to deal with the hassle of having to get it to run right, before I sell it. However, it is would be possible to get it to drive as it did once, assuming an investment into a solid tune up, timing adjustment, a few replacement parts as described as failing above, and most importantly a 'stand alone' engine management system which will sort out the A/F lean issue I believe the car is suffering from. If not, the sheer amount of choice parts will make it a gold mine for someone who is willing to take time and effort to part it out. Over the years there have been a ton of posts / comments made on this site by me. Some of the more relevant ones are posted below. http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25646 http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22957 http://www.318ti.org/forum/showpost....&postcount=154 http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthrea...ght=Fun+rattle http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29056 Also, contacting Teddy at Metric Mechanic can provide a greater detail into the car's engine and performance at the time of the build. Asking $5k, OBO. Low ball me... No parting out. Selling it as one complete car. If it don't sell on BMW forums, it goes to ebay. The car is described to be best of my abilities & current knowledge. If I'm missing anything additional - I am not aware of it. I was just wondering about you and your car a few days ago, since you hadn't been around much lately... That car is beast, and is a steal at the price you are asking... too bad I can't justify a 3rd ti, let alone get that to pass Ca emissions... GLWS! |

Caught the vdub bug bad again, and most recenlty got myself a Golf R this year. I'm already APR Stage 1 @ 306hp / 292tq, and it cost me just $600 for a direct port re-flash. So much more bang for the buck potential with the modern turbo cars. As much as loved the ti, I was always a bit out of my element in the bimmer world. I had the best intentions for the it & God knows I spent good coin on it, but again, despite the added legitimate hp I never got her to be as smooth as wanted her to be. I honestly think that a stand alone would tranform it back to its glory days - coupled with replacement of parts which have gone south from her sitting arround for 2+ years. Hope someone does save her, vs. parting her out... Cheers, M |
Darn, still looks good wish I had not just sunk a bunh of money into my 99. Twin 99's would have been awesome and same color too. |

Marko, it's good to see you back around these parts Sad to hear you're letting go of the Ti. I have a few questions. Would you be willing to sell the M steering wheel and the underpanel separate (since they're pictured not on the car)? Hope all is well |
Thanks, good to be back, even if for just a little while... I'm afraid that if I start selling parts separately now, I will end up parting it out fully. I have actually thought about doing that, since I could probably make more in that way then selling it as a whole. However, I dont have the heart to start taking her apart yet... not to mention that it will take forever. Also, I'm keeping the OMP wheel as a wall decoration :) Because of above, I have to resist the offer. She will soon be on craigslist and ebay as a whole. Sorry man. Hope all is well... M |
Fair enough. I just thought since you had the M3 steering wheel and the underpanel pictured off of the car that they would be easy to sell separately, opposed to parting out any parts bolted to the car. I'd hate to see it parted out. GLTW |
damn dude thats a great prices on..i wish i dint have bought my calitop a couple months ago..this would be a great project |

Jaja yea I would if my funds weren't going into my s54ti and the other 2 I have now... To many cars and projects going on not enough time to drive any lol |
I'm interested in your car. And clearly you put a lot of care and effort into it, so sorry there are problems. I'm new to forum and can't seem to send a PM, so please get in touch. Thanks! Paul |
^ a member from this site contacted me last night & seems to be interested in the car... if that possible transaction does not work out, I will happily reach out to you. in terms of fairness, I think its the correct thing to do. I do wish someone does eventually decide to buy it, and (hopefully) make it drivable again... its been sitting parked on the street now for years. seems such a waste. :frown: |
