As far as I know, you've covered all the bases. Those three things are whats required to start the car. You didn't mess with the ignition cylinder/antenna or the antenna module did you? Just the white EWS module, key transponder(chip) and ECU correct? I'd start checking the starter wiring.

Check your battery, all your grounds. Make sure fuel pump is turning on when you turn key to run position (ECU controls this)

+1, even though the fuel pump wouldn't keep the engine from turning over, it will still tell you if it's getting power which will help in troubleshooting the problem.

thanks guys I was hoping to hear from you two in particular, I will report back

BMW_Hatchback 09-23-2009 08:07 PM

just another note, the key chips had little pieces look liek magnets connected to them that made them hard to pry out, but they are still on there. How can I be certain that I did that correctly?

It's glue and a cushion

BMW_Hatchback 09-23-2009 09:03 PM

thanks (bonks on head)

alright I'm checking the power wires grounds, and looking for diagrams, but I can hardly read any of them. Is the brown wire the only ground? And the red ones power wires? or wha

Xenocide 09-23-2009 09:23 PM

don't look at the book, just inspect engine, should have a ground wire on the engine harness and one on the chassis to engine. Two power wires on engine harness as well.

still no crank.

BMW_Hatchback 09-24-2009 02:03 AM

good news we tried to pop the clutch method and the car cranked over but off, I'm going check the plugs, and test the starter tomorrow

Well I ran OBDII scanner, read these:

P1250 - MANUFACTR. CONTROL FUEL AIR METERING

P0302 - CYL 2 MISFIRE

PO340 - CAMSHAFT POS. SENSOR A BANK 1 CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION

P1145 - SAME AS P1250

P0161 - O2 SENSOR BANK 2 (DON'T HAVE IT YET)

PO141 - O2 SENSOR BANK 1 (DON'T HAVE IT YET)

Hmmm if your DME is running some of you grounds have to be working. Still won't crank with key though?

BMW_Hatchback 09-24-2009 07:17 PM

no crank, stalls after we pop clutch method

BMW_Hatchback 09-24-2009 07:21 PM
