Too Good To Be True Club Sport (Denver)

I found a Club Sport on Craigslist and thought about Dave. At first I was really excited...so was Dave (and Michael). Then we talked it over for the past 24 hours and found a few discrepancies. The seller sounds like a con-artist to me. I'll let ya all investigate the findings and see if you can put together the puzzle as completely as we have...or find more pieces. Here is what we have to work with.

I never believe anything a seller tries to say about a car. Especially things like all maintenance done, or first owner, etc... Unless they can back it up with proof, I just assume it is trying to up the sales price. Best bet is to get the car professionally inspected by somebody that is really good with a pre-sales inspection on e36 vehicles. That should give you the best idea of what the car is really worth.

I second the above. A lot of 'owners' but it was just sitting on a few lots and pased around via auctions on the east cost (mainly).

Also note: one man's "structural damage" is another man's "fender replaced". So, if you don't have the ability to check it yourself, by all means, have someone you trust check it for you.

CarFax doesn't always show everything either. Stuff shows up on AutoCheck that doesn't show up on CarFax and vice versa. The results could be spotless and still have some hidden major surprises. It's a good starting point, though. I've never read any CarFax "buy back" stories so I don't know how reliable that even is.

Well I tried contacting the seller multiple times to send me some interior pics to verify it has the club sport interior. But he hasn't contacted me back. I also asked him when I could I see the car with no results. Of course this was after I asked him if the car on the nobrainers site was his, he didn't answer back.

This just shows to do your homework before you purchase a car

Looks like the seller took the ad off. If you refresh the link it will say it has been removed.

I was surfing for my first car and found this, but it was too far away and seemed too sketchy like the others said. I am happy with my avus blau thank you :D

Just ran across this old for sale ad and the owner of this Club Sport was a member of the org and tried to sell his CS here on this site.
