Keep it simple stupid: 328Ti WinterDD/summer Track car
 

Hi everyone,

My name is Chris. I am from Montreal QC. I am new to the forum and would like to share with you a project I am starting.

The build will be very simple for this winter, I want to keep it simple and learn to drive as much as possible during summer 2011.

Bought this car for very cheap at the end of the summer of 2010. This car was originally build 3 years ago by my old boss and good friend, Seb from Bimmershop in the Monteal area. The body panels of the car look really bad but, the chassis it selfe, is very clean for a car driven in winter since 1996.

Current mods,

Engine:
2.8 M52
M3 cams
AA track pipe
OEM m3 muffler
zm3 short shifter (I think, its really short)
M50 intake
ITG air intake
Shark injector
tiered 3.43 open diff

Suspension, brakes, wheels:

Koni yellow ajustable revalved by Selex (local suspension shop in montreal)
H&R Race spring
Hartge front strut tower brace
M3 front sway bar
SS brake lines
stock brake
Winter wheels: steelies with nokian winter tires (probebly the best set of winter tires I ever got)
Summer wheels: BMW E60 M5 Replica 17*8 Tires: crappy brand 225/45/17

Interior:

1 driver side 318Ti sport seat (I think)
Set of Schroth's 4 points harness
MOMO 330mm steering wheel

This are the mods the car currently have, its very simple for now, nothing fancy but, it runs pretty good.

Sorry for starting a one pic thread, I am writing this from work and it's the only pic I have on my work computer :P. I'll take more pics of the car soon.

C&C are more the welcome and let me know what you think of the current setup for a starting track car.

Last pic is where I stoped and gave the project to a friend. I did a huge carrere change in 2006-2007 from a race car builder for Bimmershop to a Character Designer in the video game industry.

In 2010 my friend finally finished the Golf, 2 short video.

Apperently the Golf does mid 59sec on a small local track called Sanair. We used to test customers car and a fully build BMW club racer CMod would do around the high 1.00 minute mark...Im really sad about giving away that project but, it had to go at that time :frown:

VR6 is a hard enough swap for the A2's, but an m50? Wow:cool:, where's the engine you pulled out of it:wink:?

Yeah she's not a beauty queen but, chassis is still very solid and with everything in it, it runs pretty good.

Still havent got time to take some picture. Its been snowing for some time now, I havent got a chance to wash it and take few flix.

I'll be doing some work on it this week-end, JBR flywheel, clutch kit and need to sort out some coolant problem.

Where is it going to mount to?

It mounts like this. It does hit the oil pan a bit but, not a lot.

I did an oil change (first one since I got the car) and I found out this. Hope it's only a valve cover gasket.

Got these out of storage, probably wont use them for the track. They need lots of love.

And a bit of bling :), its a Hartge strut tower brace for E30, it doesn't fit E36 unless you flip it. It will be very close to the oil cap but it will fit with little clearance.

It's my first time trying to polish some parts, it's long and painful but the end result feels pretty good.

Not much going on for the car theses days, ordered some maintenance parts but, I wont have a place to work on it until February :frown:. I do try to do little things depending on the weather but, it's hard during winter...

the M3 sway bar is supposed to attach to tabs that are on the M3 struts, not on the control arm, that might be why it's contacting the oil pan

Hum maybe, I know your right about the linkage. But I thought it was hitting the oil pan because the M3 sway is shorter in height then the regular sway. I might be wrong :confused:.

I might be wrong too, I'm actually not sure what happens when you mount it wrong like that, just making a guess :redface:

The M3 swaybar is also a smaller diameter than the stock ti bar (23mm vs 25mm), due to the fact that it attaches to the struts. Attaching it to the control arms will cause you to have less roll resistance than before.
