Questions on wiring on OBD2 S52 engine bay

So I have been searching this forum and others for a wiring diagram to assist me with this swap. I am very novice on the wiring side of things. I had a wiring diagram printed out but now have mis placed it and can't find the thread either. Can anyone out there please help me. I am nearly complete with the motor and wanted to have the engine bay wired before I put the motor in. thanks.

Here's a link with alot of electrical manuals for BMW:

http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm

This should be for an m44 318Ti:

http://wedophones.com/Manuals/BMW/19...g%20Manual.pdf

And if i'm not mistaken, here's one for the s52 M3:

Hope this helps.

EDiT: Here's a guide on the European DIN format used in these manuals:

Does anyone have a manual or a chart with the pin#'s and the wire descriptions? These manuals are awesome if you are an electrical engineer. They don't have a sections for the engine twist plugs connecting the engine harness to the fusebox. I am at a standstill on the build, i have to adapt the engine harness from my obd2 s52 M3 to the OBD2 318ti body harness. 4 different wires on the first twist plug, ti has no second twist so 5 different wires there, and the 3rd smaller twist has 4 extra colored wires that aren't in the M3 engine harness. does anyone have a simple Pin# chart with detailed wire descriptions?

The BMW Electrical Troubleshooting Manuals (ETMs), linked to above, are drafted in a simple, uncluttered style for automotive technicians. Engineering drawings are almost always much more dense packed, and to a layperson, probably much more cryptic.

The first couple sections of each manual (0110 and 0140), after the index, explain how to interpret the drawings. (Different automakers have different styles). Sections 7000 and 7100 show component locations. The BMW ETMs are pretty well organized – is just takes a little time to get used to BMW's style.

For laughs, I have attached a schematic I was studying a few weeks ago, that helps engineers design in a simple voltage regulator. I only had to understand the bits near and around 2 1/2 sides, to answer the question: just how many pins can I tie to ground?

That was very helpful, engine in, wired, have to keep buttoning it up

Silverfox99,

Did you sort out the issue?

Are your harness and car both OBDII?

I am doing an OBDII/OBDII swap and am unclear whether any pin modifications are needed.

I have an EVAP valve CEL code but other than that it runs and drives.

I thought the only wiring mods needed were for OBDI to OBDII and/or Auto trans chassis.

I have not found a definitive answer or pinout diagrams that make it clear.

Im doing a 98 m52 swap into 98 318ti, auto box to manual box.
as far as i understood and read on forum it should be plug and play.
now having an issue with those round connectors by the fuse box
here two pictures attached, one (on the left)with less pins is from 98 323is donor ca, the second one( on the right) is from my 318ti..... any ideas?????
should i just throw in the motor plug it in and see if it works or should i fix it some how???

hi roman
the bottom plug is for the DME/cluster connection
the middle plug for the ABS signal
and i don't know for the top plug because we dont have it on European version

I think the top plug was for auto ECU

harness connectors

Guys thanks a lot for your answers!
It looks like less and less people reading the posts and shearing knowledge about the swaps!

I still havent clearly understood what to do with my wiring connector, after you guys told me which one is for, i still have one BIG question remaining

-all of tree round connectors have different amount of pins, also they not in the same locations.....!!!????

what is the best way to go?

start matching up the wires?

or just plug it in the way it is now and hope it works:confused::confused:

Please if anyone has any idea about my situation here, your help will be highly appreciated!!!!!

Just plug your harness into the corresponding connectors. They may have pins in different places then the last connectors, but it should work.
Edit: Also I'm in Jacksonville which isn't tooo far, maybe I could help.

318ti to 328 swap EVAP CEL ISSUE

hey Trusted one

I had the same EVAP CEL with my 98 OBD2 to OBD2 swap. It turns out it was a pin out wiring problem to the ECM. I wish I could remember exactly what wires I added or changed but it cleared up the CEL. I remember moving a wire to one of the twist on connectors to the engine computer.. I know this is not much help and maybe you resolve the issues, It drove me nuts until i figured it out. I had to compare the 328i vs the 318ti wire paths, there was a difference in the pin locations on one wire. At least maybe I can save you or someone else from tearing the panels at the rear seats to check out the evap components.

PlusOne,

Thanks for the input.

That is great help! It defines where to look.

I think I may have manuals for both that list the pins and signals.

Thanks

PlusOne 04-11-2016 01:54 AM

Trusted1 i think your answer is in post 5 by Samdemage It may be you need to move pin 9 from connector x6031 to pin 8 of connector x20 ( you will also find that you are getting a muffler flap error if you read your codes but this doesn't throw a CEL). Its been awhile but I think this what I did to get rid of my canister CEL problemt
