Rear Hatch cargo cover

Well I bought my ti 3wks ago and it didn't have the cargo cover. I manage to locate one and the seller is asking $80 shipped. I was planning on making one, but now I'm wondering if I should just fork over $80. So for the people who actually have one, do you guys think it's worth $80. BTW, my local dealer says it's $325.

zoner 03-08-2012 10:34 PM

If you're talking about the parcel shelf (#1 in the diagram below), Tischer sells it brand new here (beige) for $119.22+

IM LOOKING THE SAME PART ..

MOTORSPORTti 03-08-2012 11:54 PM

SOMEBODY LET ME KNOW IF HAVE SOME EXTRA SHELF ANY COLOR..

Mr.Squeelerz 03-09-2012 12:05 AM

Depends what kind of condition it's in. Sometimes the lock pins will break or the hooks connected to the string are broken. I got mine for 40 to the door..but it's not perfect.

MOTORSPORTti 03-09-2012 12:07 AM

NICE!! i just want put something there . the price is good too..

SSupa68 03-09-2012 01:33 AM

Thanks Zoner, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I requested pics of the one I located, but I'm not sure what condition it's in. I'm just wondering if it's a piece worth $80 or not.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ONE: If you had to replace yours, would you spend $80+ to buy another one?

MOTORSPORTti 03-09-2012 01:46 AM

i dont have any one i get the car without that part .. i need that..

Uber E30 03-10-2012 01:03 AM

I just bought a new OEM one since trying to find a good condition black one was a hassle. Obv if i found a nice used one for 80 i would have taken it.

Thanks for the imput. I have never seen let alone touched one so I'm wondering if it's worth the price. I'm still waiting to hear from the seller regarding pics and condition of the $80 tray
.

MOTORSPORTti 03-10-2012 01:33 AM

me too 80$ sounds decent price..

zoner 03-12-2012 06:14 PM

I think that even at $120, it's a part that I would install since it prevents things in the 'trunk' from not being visible through the window and also helps reduce road noise from the rear area.

That said, I have a spare one that I'd be willing to part with but shipping might cost a bit (it's not a small item).

MOTORSPORTti 03-13-2012 05:16 AM

how much u want for urs?> and shipping to 11103?

RAiMA 03-13-2012 06:18 AM

I'd get one if it was missing from the car. The only time I wouldn't is if the car was striped down for racing.

BlackBMWs 03-13-2012 07:10 PM

I picked one up from Bavarian recycling for $75. It was faded tan in great shape. Pins and lift cords intact. I fabric painted it gray. Anyone have a pic of the shelf for the black interior? I'm curious if it was black or dark grey.

I may go with Black as the color I did was a lighter grey. The grey I painted looks too light with the rest of the interior. (bad pic...)

Thanks!

Its black, I tried to take a picture of mine but it just looks dark grey in the photo.

Thanks! The grey I painted is starting to work for me. I see how it looks after the windows get a medium tint in the next few weeks.

blackBMWs,
Thanks for the photo of your painted shelf. You appear to have produced a nice, uniform result. What do you think of the Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric product after using it?
My shelf is identified by BMW as "dark grey", but in its faded condition, it actually has a bluish-grey appearance. I've considered doing something to restore it, and now that I've seen your result I will see if Dupli-Color has an appropriate shade of grey.

black98 03-21-2012 02:27 PM

I have used Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric product before on my cargo shelf and it turned out wonderful, I would have to say it looks brand new. I painted mine black

BlackBMWs 03-21-2012 04:01 PM

i'm happy with the result. I've used it in the past and it turns out well and is reasonable durable. I've painted higher contact spots like the center console armreat on my Bronco and it held up for years until I sold the truck.

For the ti shelf, it took two cans, one for each side. I stayed off about 8"-10" in continious strokes off edge to off edge. I have no issue with the paint or texture, it may be a little lighter than I ultimately want. I'm taking care of other car items then go back and see how I like it.

BTW, the first photo is of the top before and the bottom is after. I should take another after shot under the same lighting conditions to get a good comparison shot.

Cheers!

In case anyone cannot find one in the US. Tischer would lilely be cheaper after U.K. shipping, but just in case anyone's interested...

I typically ask the sellers if they are willing to ship to the US and if so, how much to my zipcode. A couple of times, I have been plesantly supprized at the cost for a rarer part. Most times, it's expensive...

zoner 03-27-2012 09:10 PM

UPS quoted me $65 to ship one across the country- surely it would be substantially more to ship one across the pond.

Uber E30 03-27-2012 09:14 PM

They are only 120 new + shipping from tischer, I wouldn't even bother trying to get a used one unless it was local.

Exactly. This is the issue that I'm having with mine- I can't, in good conscience, sell mine to someone when, after shipping is factored in, they can just buy a brand new one for about $20-30 more.

SSupa68 04-14-2012 10:18 PM

I finally went ahead and ordered one from Tischer

SSupa68 04-30-2012 09:38 PM

My Package Tray arrived today from Tischer and I'm very pleased. It's well wotrth the $143 I paid for it

J!m 04-30-2012 09:49 PM

I repainted the (top only) of mine with standard semi-gloss black Rust-Oleum.

Took about a week (thin coat, dry, thin coat dry overnight, three times for six dry coats) and it looks as good as new. I pulled the cord ends out of the tray, back masked the edges and went for it.

It really look just like a new one.

Note (to to those painting them) that the underside has a different 'sheen' to the material than the top does. I would not paint it unless I had to.

And to answer the earlier question: black interiors have a black tray that typically fades to purple (as mine did) in a few years.

Another shipping option to consider. I just purchased some large, light parts from a member. $90 to ship the parts UPS. I called Greyhound express shipping. $50 and some change. In this case, they are hard to find parts, so it was worth the shipping cost as opposed to purchasing new.

It might work in a pinch...

Did this and looks great and took only a few coats and about an hour of time. Turned the purple back to black.

Mine unfortunately has many scratch marks from what I would guess the PO's dog taking naps up there. The new paint didn't cover those up.

Does anyone know where I could get new ledges that actually hold the hatch cover? Mine are broke and the cover slides off when i open my hatch.

Is this what you're looking for? If Zoner doesn't have them, you can get them from Tischer (part # 8-146-707)
