Rear woofer replacement

Since I didn't feel like buying a stock one (and I didn't get any hits on a used one) I went to the net and looked for some suitable replacements. What I settled on was this:

Aluminum cone, 30WRMS/60WMax, 60-10000Hz frequancy range, 82.6dB 1W/1M blah blah blah. It was a whopping 12 bucks!

I mounted it using part of the old speaker basket that I cut off near the top. It sounds good, nice and clean. A lot more low end punch than the stock speaker.

I'll take some pics when I do the right speaker.

Here's the place I got it from...

Comparison pic... Guess which one is the stocker?

How do these fit depth-wise?

They look nice, I might have to pick up a set for my blown rear mids.

Looking forward to seeing pics from the other side's install.

They fit fine. I'll take a pic of the installation if I remember.

btw, those speakers are $24 each, not for a pair.

Thanks for the pics and listing a link in the other thread.

Looks like a good option! I bought a $50 pair of 4t Pioneer speaker to replace my rears and the sound quality got "worse". I think it's because they are two-way speakers so I lost a ton of bass.

They were $12 EACH when I bought them.

I replaced mine with a pair of these. I think they sound a little better than the originals, though I was driving with the fader set all forward for a few months.

Easy to install, just dremeled the old speaker tabs to leave the mounting ring of the speakers in the mounting bracket. Then drilled holes in the mounting ring and then screwed in self drilling screws to mount the new speaker.

Sound does distort at full volume but so do the other speakers (maybe it's the amp) and it's not really an issue for me since well before max volume you can't here anything outside the car anyways so safety issue.

Again, thanks the post. Was originally thinking of spending more than 2x as much on a pair of 5 1/4 pioneer component speakers (so replacing the rear tweeters as well) and 5 1/4 mounting brackets off ebay (from uk, < $20). But given the sound quality is really determined by the amp, improvement in sound quality would probably be minimal. I was also not looking to spend more than I needed to.

No problem, that was my plan too. With the speakers on sale the pair was about half the cost of one factory replacement. Even at the 24 bucks a pop they still cost barely more than one replacement from BMW...

Glad I could help!

FYI, the speakers are on sale again @ $12 each.

I know that this is an old thread, but I just wanted to share that I bought 2 of these. I was able to remove the old speakers from the plastic mounts intact. The new Parts Express speakers will semi-snap into the brackets, with the 4 corners sticking through the 4 slots that the original speaker baskets slide down into before you twist them to lock into place. I glued the new speakers into the brackets with some adhesive sealant and so far, so good. While these aren't the speakers for a "killer" sound system, they sound a lot better then my stock ones (especially the one with no surround left in it).

Pretty easy replacement. I hope the pics help someone out.

Why do you guys cut the speakers off? I easily got the old speakers of the mounts by breaking out away from the old glue. I'm just waiting for my speakers to come in before I compete my install.
