New member, and a question

Hi guys,

I recently switched from my Miata daily driver to a '97 318Ti. So far I'm loving it. This is the first BMW I've owned, and I'm aghast at the quality of this car. However, I think the ball joints are shot, so I ordered a new set of control arms today.

Question: It's supposed to have the Active package, and it does have a number of items that came with the Active package--like A/C, a sunroof, 10-speaker stereo with changer, etc--however it doesn't have the onboard computer or cruise control. What gives!? Is it a big operation to add the onboard computer?

A pic of the car in question:

the OBC might have broken and been replaced with just a clock, or it might just be a very optioned up base model, welcome to the site BTW

I think it's an upgraded base.
It has active wheels, should have cruise and OBC standard.
Fog lights were added.

Cruise install.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies fellas!

Also, it has ABS and traction control. Are these things exclusive to the Active, or were they available on the Base too?

Thanks again for your help,
Ben

Mallard 04-27-2008 10:13 PM

Abs is standard for all compact :)

Asc would be an option also if chosen by the customer, but if you give me the last 7 digits of your Chassis number , i can tell you exaclty what the car had from the factory floor :)

ABS has been standard for awhile on all models. ASC-T became standard late 1996.

I don't think it was ever an option. It was either standard or not available.

Mallard 04-27-2008 10:20 PM
