That was going to be my plan. Good to know it's going to work.

Good job so far, keep it up.

Thanks man, I hope this helps the clunking issue I'm having.

Anyone know the torque values for the cover bolts and bushing bolt?

dave45056 11-15-2008 05:39 PM

Cover bolts are 45N-m or 33lb-ft
Bolt thru the bushing is 127N-m or 94lb-ft
this is from the TIS

Awesome, thanks so much.

All my cover bolts broke free pretty easily, the bushing bolt isn't coming free yet. I've hit it pretty good with penetrating lubricant and I'm going to let it sit for a while.

nice... I didnt think of that.

I already took the bushing out and pressed in a new one.

To get it out I pushed out the center of the old one, cut away as much of the rubber as possible then took it to the bridgeport and ground away as much of the metal ring as possible without hitting aluminum. I did this in two places on opposite sides of the ring.

There was enough of a lip on the bushing's metal ring to stick it in a vice and push it together. (It compressed where I ground the metal away.) I then took it to the press and used a small piece of scrap metal to push the ring out.

The new one went in really easily, much easier than the CABs, I just stuck the new bushing in the freezer and it popped right in with barely any pressure from the press.

And yeah, I'm using the 75w-90 RP gear oil. Great stuff.

Carnage pics...Second one shows the crease where we ground it down and viced it.

Well I got everything done yesterday. The nut on the bushing bolt was the biggest PITA I have ever come across. The use of extensions and a huge breaker bar were necessary as well as my dad using some insane force to break it free.

After that, everything went really smoothly. The old bushing was pulling away in three places and just looked worn out. I was very impressed by how clean the old cover was on the inside, Royal purple is fantastic stuff. Filled it back up with another 1.2 qts and was on my way.

I have put about 50 miles on it so far, I can definitely say that the loud rear end clunk I had when letting off the gas is gone. I'm sure that with a new guibo and motor mounts the whole drivetrain will feel tight.

Good to hear. I have the same rear end noise going on now. I'm gearing up to do the subframe bushings and trailing arms. Looks like I'll need to add this bushing to the mix.

Great work..

My mount looks just like yours and I'm having really bad vibration in the rear.
Where did you buy the mount at?

spidertri 06-05-2013 11:40 AM

Wow, when I bought the bushing a few years ago it was only $40, now it's up to $170. That really stinks because that M bushing was considered the best upgrade. Urethane is not usually recommended there because it might speed up the trunk floor tearing issue that these cars can have.

The stock ti bushing is still $40. Maybe you could find a solid rubber E30 bushing, I don't know if they even sell those anymore.

Is this the same gear oil you used for your differential?

I'm not a fan of the royal purple anymore.

You can get Mobil 1 75w-90 from most auto parts stores, that will be less expensive and be a better oil.

I seen them but they only have Mobil 1 75w-90 LS and I don't have limited slip though.

It'll be fine for a non-LSD.
