I'm trying to see just how hard it is to fix a very slightly bent aluminum wheel. I'm making a rig, somewhat like a professional unit for straightening a wheel with a hydraulic jack and fittings.

Some places make it seem like taboo or impossible to fix an alloy wheel. But, I've been watching videos on YouTube of professionals on purpose built machines and it's a pretty crude process. Just heat the bent spot slightly with a torch and start forcing it where you want it to go with the little hydraulic unit. Same with websites of companies who do this exclusively. Some heat, some don't, but it's always just well placed hydraulic pressure. Again I'm not talking about severely bent wheels, just tiny little bends. Less than 1/4" dips when you spin the wheel.

I've been reading on temps to heat the aluminum and I've seen 275F mentioned. It was in a book about racecar materials or something. It specifically mentioned that temp to straighten slightly bent cast alloy wheels. Canadian law limits heat sources to no more than 400F for using heat to straighten wheels. Odd things you find on the internet ;) Some where under 300F sounds good.

Here's one video. The first half is basically a how-to from the manufacturer of the machine and the second half is a pro fixing a wheel in just a few minutes on it.

Yes, yes, I know the possibly dangers of doing this!! :D I just think this can't be rocket science.
