WTB: Idle Control Valve

Need an idle control valve for my 98 318ti 5 speed manual, not sure if they differ or not throughout the year or drivetrain.

You will need an ICV for an M44 which started in 1996.

Have you tried to clean yours yet? If not, do a quick search and try that. It's rare for an ICV in these cars to need replacing, usually a good cleaning will work it out.

I cleaned it today and no good. I thought it worked and it seemed to settle down a little bit as the idles went down, but it still jumps up and down.

Check the air tube between the air flow metter and throttle body, as well as all the vacume lines. Your describing a vacume leak....

Give it a few days the computer may have to make some adjustments based on new flow rates. If it's still acting up then you need to check your vacuum.

Well I took it to the mechanic and it was throwing a code for the ICV, so he told me im going to have to replace it. I cleaned it twice, its a little better now and idles pretty normal but on a cold start it comes pretty close to dieing out.

does anyone have a picture or can tell me where to locate the ICV.. is it the one that requires the star type screw to be removed?
