remote key fobs - quick question now, I am familiar with the coding procedure as described in this thread. My car didn't come with a fob (previous owner was kinda careless about losing things) so before I spend any money, am I right in thinking that if I were to buy this fob or one just like it, all I need to do is follow the coding instructions on that thread, or is there more to it? Thanks |
Seeing that your car is an E36, I don't think that the one you linked us to is the correct one. Those are used for the newer cars (E90, e60 etc). For the thread that you linked us to, I would think that you would need the 2 button fob. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...WOEMremote.jpg I just looked on realoem.com for the keyless entry system, but I couldn't find it, so I'm not too sure which one you really need. Most of us are here in the US, BMW never offered a 2000 318ti... |
that's why I wanted to check - the ad lists it as being good for e36 e46 etc- in fact practically every model BMW have made in the last 15 years, but it looked to me like an e90 fob... however I thought perhaps the system hasn't really had to change over the years since you need a physical ignition key to perform the operation anyway.... because looking at other listings for similar items on fleabay, they all seem to list several model generations... |
thanks for the realOEM link... I entered my VIN and it took me here - can see pretty much everything except for door locks and security system on here - although I have found 'Marten Repeller' (useful to stop the furry buggers chewing through the brake cables; happens a lot in Germany!) and a bunch of other stuff... perhaps I am looking in the wrong place... |
there is a key available that has the button on the key like an E46 style key. I can send you a link if you're interested. i got one myself and like it. |

Will you please clue me in. Thank you. |
hey marv post the link pretty interested here too... sounds awsome |
yes please, +1 for the link! however, even if that doesn't work my local indie BMW specialist says he can replace the old-style remote fob for about £40 GBP which is not too expensive, I don't think... |
My ti didn't come with a fob. Does the dealer sell replacements? What are my options in obtaining one? |
you can get em off ebay i seen a couple.. the dealer sells em for like 100 bucks if im not wrong or atleast the ones around here.. but you might want to check if the PO didnt remove the security system previous to your purchase Quote:

Is the brain in the glove box or in the hatch? |

Thank you, the brain is there, so I'll start looking for a 3 button fob on ebay. |
