OBD2 to OBD1 swap Looking to buy a 96 318ti that will basically a shell for a race car. It is an auto transmission car. I have access to a complete 318i sedan with a manual that is an OBD1 car. We would be swapping the entire engine, trans, ECU and harness. Is there any reason that the OBD1 set up will not work in a 1996 chassis. We would like to retain gauge function along with ABS. We will not be retaining the traction control system. |
Correct me if I'm wrong but obd2 to obd1 is just on the engine and management. I slung a 98 obd2 m52b28 in my 94 obd1 compact 316 the only problem I had was at the gauge cluster with the abs light but that was down to using a 6 cylinder cluster and the abs wiring changed slightly only had to add 1 cable. With yours as there 4 cylinder clocks I don't think there will be a problem. The engine loom all goes to one or two big plugs. Sent from my E6553 using Tapatalk |
If it's a race car, buy an electromotive tecm ecu and then you can do whatever you want. Use any e36, 6 cal harness to make it work. Tell them John from Mike Johns sent ya. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
