Oxidized headlights

When I bought my car a few months ago, one of the things I wasnt too happy about were the nasty oxidized headlights. A few weeks ago I went to Savage BMW in Ontario for an event they were having. While waiting for a discounted oil change, the paintless dent repair guy took a look at my dents and my headlights. For a decent price, he removed the dents from my ti and my sweetie's Z3 coupe. He also polished up my headlights. Take a look in my album. Everyone is blown away. They look like new again! I am so happy with the results!

Also in my album are some pics from the BMW CCA Driving School at Cal Speedway (ok... Auto Club Speedway) this past September. Talk about the next best thing to sex!!!

What is a 'decent price'? I have several dings that I'd like to have removed, but I was always told that it runs about $75-100 per, for a ding that is about the size of a quarter. At that rate, I'd in for about a grand... :frown:

I paid $350 for my headlights as well as 4 panels on my car and 2 on my sweetie's. There were mulitple dings in each panel as well as pretty deep one (looks like maybe a baseball hit the corner of the quarter panel). He didnt get that deep one all the way out but it looks a heckuva lot better than it did!

Wow your headlights were looking pretty rough before. That made a world of difference in how the entire car looks!

I just use wax on my headlights when they are looking rough. Just wax on and wax off and they will be back to new. Works every time. I also bought the dent puller from autozone for 20 bucks and pulled out dents out of my car and my brothers. And I still have the kit at home so I could pull out more if I wanted. Next time use your own wax on the headlights, save some money.

I'm going to have to check that out since I have a dent on my door I want to get rid of.

3M Plastic Polish is my favorite for the headlights.

x2

My headlights on my old Jetta were really bad, yellowed and oxidized. I spent an hour or so with some plastic polish and it cleaned them right up, looked brand new. I need to do this with the ti too.

They sell wipes that clean up headlights at advanced autoparts for $22. Don't know how good they are though.

or you can use meguirs plastik-X, like $9 a bottle. works on everything plastic.

Thanks John, it did make a huge difference didnt it?! I think it was well worth the money spent. I actually have one of those headlight kits from the auto parts store at home but I never got around to using it. I had confidence in the guy and his work since he is dealer approved, I got to spend the day with other BMW enthusiasts, sitting among a showroom full of hot cars! I definitely will keep the lamps waxed to keep them clear. And my car goes SO much faster now that the car is more aerodynamic with all the dents removed!

I'd think it'd go slower without the golf-ball aerodynamics

Not to sound goofy, but it really brightened up the entire front end! The lamps are one of the things that can make a car look great, and its a shame to have a great looking car and dingy headlights!! I say money well spent. I don't think any $9 bottle of magic goo is going to get them looking as good as that either!

ladeeda3 11-18-2008 03:54 AM

No no... the dents caused drag! LOL

Yup, I got myself a bottle. I use it on my interior sometimes.
