Hello from hopefully a future owner in NC

Hi all, I'm glad to join this fine group. I have been wanting a 318ti for several years now, and can't get it out of my head, so I think I am going to have to act on it at some point. I can't explain what draws me to this car, but nothing else in this price range really appeals to me.

Getting a car set up to be able to go to places like VIR would definitely be great, but primarily I am looking for it to be a fun DD that gets better mileage than my Dodge Ram. I may even look at trading one of my dual sport motorcycles for one, we'll see. Thanks!

I thing the 318 is a perfect track car that can store your race wheels since it has a hatch.

I'm back... ended up buying a '93 Miata instead of an NA, not long after I made this hello post. Since then I put 12,000 miles on it, did some bodywork and had it painted, and sold it for what I had in it almost exactly.

And now I'm back here. The Miata was fun, but I didn't love it. One of the main reasons I got rid of it was how it rode on the highway. 4k RPMs, even with cruise control, gets pretty tiring during the course of a 90 mile round trip commute. That's more of an excuse, really.

I have looked at other stuff to replace the Miata, but the 318ti is the only one I keep entering in my Craigslist searches. I had to use the Miata money for something else, so it will be a little while, but I think I will end up with a ti this time.

Keep up the search!

The 318ti does well with keeping up in traffic, getting decent mpg (high 20's), can be a fun momentum car with some suspension work, and have a lot of good practical space.

Be warned though that with the stock differential (3.45) you will be reving to 3500rpm at roughly 75mph. With a quiet exhaust I have no problem with it, but when I had a gutted muffler for a little while it was mind numbing.

That's ok, I'm coming from a '93 Miata that had 4.30 gears and was at almost 4100RPMs at 75! My daily is a 4 cylinder 5 speed Frontier that turns 3k RPMs at 75, so I don't mind 3500RPMs.

Yeah, I was about to say, my stock M44 with standard diff always goes to about 4k at 80mph.... You get used to it, huh. :)

Great little cars. Period.
