Missing Vacuum hoses?
 

I noticed my egr valve was pinging again, so I decided to check the parts catalog to get a price check. That's when I noticed I was missing quite a bit of my vacuum system.

When I first bought the car the air pump was busted and I had a dirty egr valve. Also one of the hoses was busted and not connected. I put two and two together and just connected a new hose where I thought it would go, directly to the engine. Hose 9 in that case would go straight to where hose 1 would be skipping parts 2-8.

Is this just a fault in the diagram am I really missing parts parts 2-8? My 318ti is 1997. I mean how could the previous owner lose that much? Also, could this be the reason why my egr valve keeps getting stuck and my fuel economy is bad?

I'm having similar issues. The line from exhaust check valve runs directly to valve cover vacuum connection instead of electronic control unit.

I will post if I learn anything.

I'm having air pump issues and cam position sensor errors that seem to be related, but not sure.

Pilsberry, it's been a while, but I'll try to remember. The diagram is correct the rest of it is hidden under the manifold.

Hose 9 does connect to 7 even though 7 is represented in the diagram inaccurately; it's opening is actually horizontal like the rest of the cylinder. Look up my old post on how to solve the pump issue. Also it's a good idea to clean the egr or replace it.

Thanks for response. Your info solves part of my problem in that the items are hidden.
But, those two hoses on the electronic valve (10) both run back under the manifold (on my car). Also on my car, hose 13 runs to a barb on the front of the intake manifold. This is in error I think, as it applies suction to the EGR valve all the time. But I don't know what I would do with the other hose that would be freed up if I connect 13 to 10. I need to find out what this vacuum source is supposed to attach to. It is currently holding the valve open at all time and ruining my air pumps.

Update
 

So, I swapped the hoses and noted little change in engine performance. Perhaps a high idle but the engine is cold. I would still like to confirm this is correct as I see no reference to the vacuum source on the front of the manifold.
