Experiences with LSD Diff ratios for track S52

I'm seeking your experience and insights on what you have found effective for a track LSD ratio for a S52 swap. Reading and learning as much as possible.

I have I believe a 2.93 LSD on my S52 TI just now, and run a 3.45 LSD with my other TI with a M44 now. Figure I can still be quick and responsive with an E28 3.46 or lower the ratio for the S52 and get better top end on an E28 3.25.

Thoughts? Thanks!

with the stroked m42 i run a 4.4 with a 328i / m3 gearbox and don't use first gear any more. the ratios are pretty good and it will reach 110mph. on my 328i powered ti, i have a 316i gearbox with a 3.7 final drive and no longer use first gear in that car either. when it rains both cars will spin the wheels in fourth and can be quite a handful but great fun. i have bought a honda s2000 gearbox which i would like to try as it has 6 gears (making 5 usable ones without using 1st) there is a gear calculator somewhere on the net which you put in the tyre size, gearbox ratios etc and it works out speed in each gear which is very helpful for deciding which combination to go for

Interesting idea with the S2K tranny swap, let us know how it goes with that, might even be cheaper than an s54 tranny swap besides the bell housing fabrication!

Is something like this gear ratio/mph calculator what you are looking for? http://www.andysautosport.com/learni...r/calculators/

As for an LSD on the track I can't comment. I do have a modded M50 with a 4.10lsd. I can imagine for autox it would be alright but would run out of gearing on a track. I'm at 4K roughly at 70.

118Mph at 7200 rpm (M52B28) with (323) getrag 5 sp box and a S3.91 (40/25)
all M3 are behind

Thanks all! I'll drop in a 3.25 LSD and see how that works for our local tracks. I'll assess what gets installed in next.

go directly to a 3.46 or a3.64 you didn't recognise your car

I think a 3.46 with the S52 would be awesome. It'll come...
