Rear Window Mystery Wire

My rear window defroster isn't working, so I pulled the plastic trim around the window and I found this plug. The other end of the plug isn't anywhere to be found.

Do any of you have any idea what this is for? I thought that maybe it's a rear window antenna type of thing, but why wouldn't it be hooked up?

that looks like the plug for the defroster, it would explain why they don't work, no clue where the other end is

But there is also brown wire and a black wire on either side of the defroster that are still there. I'm not reading a voltage on either of those. I would think that all the defroster needs is a positive and negative wire and the current runs across those. This wire seems to be separate from the whole defroster.

I think my defroster isn't working because of a wire in the dash. Someone stole the stereo from the previous owner of my car and they snipped all the wires that go to the 3-button defroster, a/c, and circulate thing. Both the a/c and the circulate features work fine but the defroster doesn't. I think I may have screwed up on one of the wires for the defroster and that is why it doesn't work.
