Speed Sensor

Like I've said previously, I had new seals put in my diff. The driveshaft seal, halfshaft seals and rear cover seals have been replaced. I took it back to the shop to trace a small leak two weeks ago. He replaced an o-ring that goes around the speed sensor, and thought he fixed it. It's still leaking, so I went back, and now he says the speed sensor is where the leak is coming from.

Not a big deal, I can replace that easily.

The questions is, can the speed sensor really be where the leak is, or is the o-ring still the issue? Second, should I buy the speed sensor made for the 3.46 LSD, or buy a new one that fit my stock diff?

The part #'s are different, and from the picture, something else is different on the socket where the wires come in.

Here are the links.

In the first link, part #11 is not familiar, doesn't show in the stock TI part list.
I am currently using my stock TI speed sensor in the E28 diff, and it works fine. So which speed sensor should I replace it with, or should I just try something else to fix the small leak?

i used my speed sensor off my ti diff and used the bracket off my e30 diff to make it fit staright and tight. i havent had a problem with a leak yet.

my plug wouldnt work with the e30 speed sensor.

The o-ring and bracket are the same part #'s for both diffs. That means the form and fit is the same for both sensors. I'm just gonna order a new o-ring and bracket . I can't see how the actual sensor can allow oil through it.

yeah i doubt the sensor is leaking but the o ring is much more likely.

its for sure leaking from the sensor area??

not the drain plug or cover?

We had the car up on a lift, and he had a drop light shining on it. Looked very convincing that the leak was from the sensor/o-ring.

hahah ok sounds like its the right spot, sounded like the mechanic was the one looking and not you.

mechanics can be worthless sometimes. just looking out

I think he was tired of me coming back about that leak. I stood right there under the car with him, when he pointed out the leak.

I just picked up the minor parts from the dealer to fix the leak in the rear of the diff. Here is my question. I can't remember if I used the stock speed sensor, or the 3.46LSD sensor. I ordered the stock Ti sensor, just because I knew the electrical interface connector would mate up.

From what I remember, the 3.46LSD speed sensor had one longer and one shorter half circle part that went into the diff on both sides of the ring. The new sensor I just bought had both protruding half circles the same size. Would a 318ti sensor fit in the 3.46 LSD? I just don't remember which one is in there.

i used my stock one out of the ti diff.

and you are right one side is longer on the e30 so i was skeptical to if it would work or not but it does.

so use the stock ti sensor.
