s52 conversion into a ti.

hello, everyone..i just joined and i just got my license..the beemer i have is a little project car and i know buying all this stuff now prolly isen't going to be a very good idea. But i was wondering what requirements are needed in order to fully function a s52 engine into a 318ti M-series. they have some on ebay i am very interested in but want to get some feedback from more experienced drivers. Any help would be great. and im glad to be part of the 318ti family! :)

well first off, congrats on the license!

second, enjoy the 4cyl awhile... a newly licensed driver does not need S52 power in a little car ;)

I second that, had my license for 2 years now, the 4-cyl. is plenty for me  welcome to the site though

+3 Dont s52 just yet, you need to get a feel of the 4cylinder and the chassis before anything. I see many new guys come on here and want more power and a month later, with the 4cylinder still crammed in the bay, theyve rolled their Ti into a ditch, tree, swap, car, tree, etc. Dont be a statistic. Also, read through the forum first. I and many others have swapped our engines and did writeups, look over them.

thanks guys. and yea i wasent gunna get it right away..i was hoping to get alot of money saved up and buy one hopefully new or something from gotengines.com. And yea i am getting a feel for the 4cylinder. i got a dinan exhaust system in it, and the dinan chip..but the chip needs to be sync'd..but thats gunna cost more than the chip itself. and yea i look into those write ups.

And be sure to buy a 5 speed ti.
The swap can be done, but I agree with everyone here.
The 4 cyl with a 4 speed is peppy and lots of fun to drive.

Wow! Yours came with a 4 speed? Mine has the 3 on the column.

OP- where is Severna Park? Don't rule out the 2.8 either. While the install of the motor proper is about the same cost the motor itself is cheaper, much more plentiful and still offers 190hp that can be built up further, later. Look into buying an entire parts car and selling off what you don't use.

lol, that was either a typo or he's talking about an auto

Welcome to the site! Check out the mid-atlantic forum for info on local meets. We are having one this weekend.

Hey buddy, I live in Arnold, literally right next to you. I'm going to school in College Park with spidertri^.

This Saturday (the 18th) bunch of us are meeting over here and cruising down rt. 450 to Annapolis to hang out and snap a group pic for the calendar. It'd be great if you wanted to meet us there. Check out this thread: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthrea...t=23792&page=6 and let us know man!

Congrats on the license, and damn you all in MD for having meets. I miss my ti so much now that I'm up in snowy Rochester, NY. It's being garaged in an aircraft hanger under a tarp until next summer! :( I feel bad for the thing, and good God do I miss driving it.

Ah yes, the first days of license were pretty restricted for me too. We'll definitely be around when you can make it out.

Nice car, looks really good.

Nice looking. Not too sure about the blacked out rims, but that's probably because I have the same ones in the standard silver. I'm biased. I can't wait to see more ti's in MD when I get back for summer, and possibly holiday breaks. We'll have to have a big meet next summer or something. Big meaning...five? ish? Haha. Word!
