Possible 97 318ti purchase help

I was hoping I could get some help with a possible 318ti. I found this 97 318ti in the NY area. It has 125k and is offered for 4200.

One question is that the rear has a M3 emblem, but isn't that the high performance version. The carfax report looks good but at this mileage I figure the major work is going to be needed. The Kelly Blue book list prices closer to 3000 but most of the sales I see are over 4000 for a good condition model.

Any help would be appreciated. Free dinner for anyone who would come look at it with me some day soon. The car is in Westchester.

Also are there any good independent performance shops in NY tristate that know this car.

Thanks!!!

There should be no M emblem on the rear except on the factory spoiler.
The previous owner did that.

There really isn't any high performance ti.

Base, Active, Sport and 1995 Club Sport.
Only 'performance' are suspension parts on the sport and Club Sport.

So there should not be a M3 emblem. I have seem a couple for sale with this on the rear. Some people advertise as a 318ti with the M package. Is this is b.s. Do you think taking off the emblem will damage the paint.

Removing stickers should be doable.

Sport packaged equipped Ti's did have some M badging, but not on the rear.

15" wheels - Base or Active
16" wheels - Sport

Good luck with the sale.

The 96-99 sports had ///M on the side molding, not ///M3.

Dental floss will remove the badge.

i cant add anything to what they said about the m3 badge. it surely does not belong on the car. but it does look clean.

Yea that's one of the cars I was looking at.

tiFreak 06-29-2009 07:06 PM

it's not even a sport model, nice looking car other than the M3 badge though

anyone else notice the taillights? they look so cool with the red turn signals

User TheMightyQuinn is selling his. I think he wants less than that. Send him a PM. He's in Maryland and his car has 150k on it. I believe it's a sport model.

Oh, PS. I'm happy to look at either car with you for some dinner ;)

Don't forget that the 1995 Sport had 15" wheels as well, and did not come equipped with M badging either, nor the color coded bumpers like the 96-99 Sport, and Clubsport ti's did

How do you tell if a ti has the sports package and what does that include.

Did TheMightyQuinn list his car here, or am I blind

Thanks

He wants to sell his to buy that.

Sport package has an M3 front bumper, M3 rear bumper (but slightly different for fitting reasons), thicker trim around the side, thicker sway bars, stiffer springs and tighter shocks. It also has fog lights.

tiFreak 06-30-2009 05:22 PM

it also has a different interior, black leather with cloth inserts and bigger bolsters on the seats

in 95 the sport package just came with the suspension and interior upgrades though
