AU37037 - 1996 Alaska Blue M-Sport

Hi everyone, I just picked up my 9th BMW, a 1996 M-Sport automatic with 200k miles. This is my 3rd E36, previously owning a Hellrot '96 328i, and Arctic Silver '97 M3 saloon. My current daily is a '95 840Ci in Cosmos Black.

Rescued this 318ti a few days ago and drove it from NY to MS over a couple of days. Bought it as a casual project car to get cleaned up and a little more road worthy over the next several months, and also to teach my teenage daughter to drive. If the car survives the 4-5 years with my daughter, after she's done with it I plan to claim it back as my own and drop in an S52 with other M3/M-coupe performance mods.

The car did surprisingly well on the 1,200-mile trip home, notwithstanding its intermittent fuel gauge failure (must be a shorted wire somewhere), desperate need of an alignment, shimmy during braking (bad rotors and/or suspension bushings), and loud hum in the rear end under load (rear diff or driveshaft bearing?)

Where in New York did you find it?

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys.

Joe, I found it on Craigslist in Staten Island, NY ...

Nice! I used a 97 ti automatic to teach both my kids how to drive. It is a perfect car for that. Its small and nimble enough to get you out of some tight spots and has just (barely) enough power if you need it. I would suggest sending your daughter to a Tire Rack Street Survival course if possible. My daughter did 2 of them and really learned a lot! You will love having it.

Nice tip, Joe! I'll try to find one in my area when that time comes. Thanks!
