Project Frankenstein TI

I figured since some guys are finishing their swaps and I officially got a good start, I might as well start to document the process. I bought the TI for $800 just to do a swap, I wasn't planning on running it on the M44 for a single day. A local guy gave me a bunch of good parts left from his 98 M3 part out for free which is helping out alot. I'm planning on building a Frankenstein motor from the ground up, the usual swaps are just too plain. I won't polish & paint all the parts like cooljess does but I'll make sure it looks good. The car should get a full paint job to set it off as a unique car. More details to come of the full build specs. On with the pics!

So far Jim's book has been such an awesome resource in keeping this project organized and on track. I bought it back in June and have been reading it over and over again to make sure I didn't miss anything. Thanks a lot J!M. Here's more pics for now.

So far the game plan is to do the brakes, suspension & all the reinforcements then send it to my buddy at JNF Kustoms to do all the body work & color change. I haven't decided on a color yet but looks like it might be an orange, still open to suggestions if anybody has any. As you guys can see I didn't go with the M coupe/M roadster rear end route like J!m's swap manual suggests so expect a custom rear brake setup on this project since I won't accept anything less than the perfect brakes balance. To give you a taste of the rear setup:
2 piece rotors using the stock rotor center as the park brake section
Adapter brackets to locate calipers
Longer Brake lines (braided steel)
All attaching hardware
4 piston Wilwood calipers
Aftermarket Pads.
This weekend I'll be working on the wheel bearings, installing remanufactured E30 Axles, mounting the twisty sideskirts & relocating the battery to the trunk if I get the parts on time.Enjoy!

Looks good man. I need to change out my bushings but I don't have the time to get it done. I can't wait for the next update.

O and how about Techno Violet purple for the color?

projekt EPiK 12-09-2009 06:30 PM

looks killer man. i just got my lux skirts today.. are you supposed to drill into the rockers on the car to mount the clips?
great score on the ti for 800.00 . even had some rims to sell off.. LOL

pnosker 12-09-2009 07:56 PM

You have to drill in for 1995 and earlier ti's with stock gray skirts.

+1 for Techno Violet!!! Just be sure to paint the engine bay, etc.

If you want to keep the color within the BMW family then Imola Red or Dakar Yellow to make it stand out. The project is coming along nicely. Looking forward to the next update with some pics.

+1 for Inka. I've heard this color is the most sought after color for older BMW's, it is a classic track car color.
