Auto-closing windows
 

OK, for real this time...

This is a 'feature' of this '98 318ti M-Sport that no-one (not the previous owner who's a BMW mechanic at a nearby dealership, nor my local expert BMW mechanic shop...) thinks is actually "normal."

Far from the worst E36 electrical window problem in the world, but it's a curiousity - I didn't see this exact problem mentioned elsewhere, so wondering if anyone has any ideas, or this sounds familiar.

Everything else about the windows works normally as far as I can tell: but when I get out of the car, if any of either L or R door windows or the sunroof are open at all, they will close automatically when the doors are closed.

I'm pretty sure the normal behavior here is that I can go, "oh, nuts, I left the window(s) / sunroof open..." and put my key in the door lock, and turn it past lock and hold it there, and the windows will all close without my having to climb / reach back into the car, turn the ignition on and use the interior buttons...

But it's just automatically doing it on its own as soon as the doors are closed, without the key anywhere near any of the locks. Almost seems like a feature, but, I'm pretty sure it's a bug :)

Probably aftermarket alarm system was put in. I think the modules are under passenger dash.
