At my end with trying to remove water pump! HELP PEASE!
 

Been a while since I've posted and I need some help. I simply cannot remove the water pump to save my life. Mines a 95 with the M42. I can get some channel locks on it and wiggle it but that's it. It broke where you insert your bolts that's supposed to push it out which I expected after reading everything. Pry-bar won't even budge it and yes I removed all 4 bolts.

I was thinking of getting some threaded rod and screwing in to where the pully bolts to it then drilling 2 holes in some pipe, siding it on, with some nuts on the end, and making a sort of sliding breaker to help knock/pull it out. Anyone had this problem before and if so, what did you do?

I've read, never tried, that you can try to spray some WD-40 on the oring and it will help release the grip the oring has on the bore. Some people say it will pop right out if you can pull a bit and spray right on the gap. I'd thread two of the bolts in so when you finally get it it doesn't fly out and smack the radiator.

Thanks for the reply! I'm doing that very thing but with some Kroil. Letting it soak overnight. Ran to Lowes and picked up a few things. Will give it another go tomorrow and try the slider/breaker that I'm rigging up. Until then it's a nice little pour of Gentlemean Jack and kicking back in the recliner. :smile:

Not sure if kroil will have the same effect, it might. I think this could be a case where WD is being used for it's actual application (it's not a good penetrating oil, Kroil is way better for that) but WD-40 is better at displacing water. So if you spray it on the oring it makes it naturally want to pop away from the water in the cooling system.

No kind of penetrating oil work. Took a heavy dose of kiss my a$$ and a larger crowbar! It came out in pieces but it all came out!! All that's left for tomorrow is belts and bleeding the air out the system. Feels damn good though! Cleaned up the front of the engine while I had access. Looked pretty nasty as you can see. Car has 240k and as far as I can tell that's was the original water pump!!! Added image. Not sure if it can be seen. Not seeing on my end.

I straggle myself for hours, trying the method described in the repair manual and just ended up breaking the brackets on the water pump.

Then I found this video https://youtu.be/BTs5ZN0fTrk and the advice worked like a charm! Water pump was out in a 3 minutes.

Same thing happened to me. Mine appeared to be the original and lasted 214k miles so it was adhered in there pretty good. Took me 3 days to remove it. Wound up busting it in half. Once the front half came out I had to use a wire brush and 3m pad to remove the build up so the rest could slide out. The plastic empeller literally crumpled on its way out.
