obd1 obd2 obdwho?

Hello all, I just created this account, although I have been active on several other e36 sites. Within the last year I crashed my beloved 328is beyond repair. I am currently stripping the entire care down to the frame, and discarding as little as I can. The original plan was to find another 328is to have direct match, but somewhere along the lines of searching the interwebs like a fiend for a clean low miled example I fell in love with the 318ti. A few of my favorite 318ti on the market right now are 95's. This broke my heart because I didnt want to get involved with obd1, but as time progresses, and I still have no car the 95 option seems more appealing. Is obd1 a big set back for an obd2 swap? Is obd1 less desirable? Would it cost more in certain aspects, and how does it compare to the obd2 in terms of reliability:confused:

Best part about obd1 is no emissions inspection. So you can get away with more and make more power without worrying about passing inspection. Can run gutted cats along with deleting secondary air ,exc. But can be made to run just like a stock obd2 if you want.

Out in hickville Kentucky we do not have emissions tests, so thats not my biggest concern:tongue:
however I am concerned about my M52 being the a piece of cake slide in to the underpowered 318

Personally I go for OBDII for the reason that its easier to find a 96-99 318ti to swap, m52 makes more power stock, and also OBDII gives you more sensors which means easier trouble shooting when things go wrong. Anything tuning wise that can be done with OBDI can basically be done with OBDII, OBDII has been around long enough that its not really a hindrance to performance anymore. Initial swap might be a bit more work though.

Good luck!
