[330ti: Project Clubsport]

I originally posted this on bf.c thinking they'd help out a S50 easy, but no luck.

Recently acquired a 330ti from a good friend Wayne and I'm slowly in the process of getting it to DD condition.

Engine mods: 98k S50B30, TMS Stage 3 (schrick cams, injectors, chip, intake), headers, and Eisenmann catback. Probably more...

Currently I am experiencing a RPM bounce when I'm coasting to a stop. The idle will dip low then bounce back up and level out when I've reached a complete stop. My old M44 used to behave this way when it had a dirty ICV, but I know that aftermarket cams can cause a rough idle at times. I don't know about the bounce though. There is no CEL, but the car is due for new plugs and an oil change for sure. The engine has 98k on it, and runs very strong, it just runs kinda rough I guess.

Yeah, do the sparkplugs, clean the icv probly those are the most relavant..

Also camshaft position sensor if it is not cured... make sure to do the spark plugs when the car is cold.. aluminum block can expand when hot and you dont really wanna change plugs then even though last time i did it when it was pretty warm.. sooo. good luck let us know how it goes..

possibly new spark plug wires as a last resort.

thanks dude

Ced;
Congrats on the new ti! First question is does the car have a LTW flywheel? I have the Fidanza 12lb flywheel and I get some idle flucuation when the engine revs drop down to under 1k. It's normal if the car has a ltw flywheel, the DME is compensating for the lower rotational mass...

Pics of said "acquired" vehicle?

Does it have a lightened flywheel and does the idle problem occur every time?
I would also check for vacuum leaks or you could just drive it down to South Carolina and I'll get it all sorted for you.

How does it compare to your car. That exhaust I sold you was made for these mods!!

Wayne told me this never happened to him so it could be something that just stated happening. I'll get pics up soon, if anyone knew Gary from a couple years ago this used to be his (roll bar, brembos, recaros, ect...)

Is this the black one I've see. On bf.c sig..
I'm In for more details... So far sounds :0 :0:0

Yeah, I didn't drive it much though. Sometimes I had to give it some gas to keep it from stalling when first starting up but otherwise I never had problems with the rpm's dropping. Idle was a bit rough but I figured that's the solid aluminum mounts and the shrick cams. I think I put 400 miles on it in 5 months though so it didn't see much road time.

Pretty sure this ti has a ltw flywheel but I don't know the weight. It revs a good bit faster than my S52 M3 does.

...and yes.. once you get past 4500 rpm this ti is ":0 :0:0" :D

Isis07 is the seller of the car in case anyone missed that. Thanks for the info bro

Can I hazz this car.. I will fix and give back lol..

The rough idle is probably cuz of the cams..

BMW_Hatchback 12-19-2010 12:57 AM

Haha come on down from NJ we should hang. I hope its just the cams, but I'm going to make sure

spidertri 12-19-2010 02:01 AM

Dang Ced, I didn't know that ti had all those mods, that car must be a beast.

I would if if my ti was gonna be on the road but unfortunatly it's going to be apartfor the winter so I can do my swap..
My m50 does the same crap specialy when it's cold. It idles stupid .. Idk if the cams would make the idle bounce/drop .. I know they will increase idle... But check the icv. And maybe a vacuum leak somewhere
