Picking up a 98 TI AUTO My 1996 5-speed is getting tired at 273k miles. It still runs really good and gets 28-30mpg but the clear coat is peeling off. Thank goodness it's white. I am picking up a Green 1998 with 155k miles with automatic transmission as a daily beater and some occasional hiking trips. Any maintenance tips on the automatic transmission? |
Yes, swap it for the 5 speed from your 96. You will be terribly disappointed with the auto after driving the 5 speed for so long. |
I am getting tired of driving the manual. I guess getting older. (turned 60) I might give the 5-speed to my son if he wants it or just sell it. I like the little TI with the big space in the back with the back seats folded down. For $1200 I will not hesitate. |
I started out with an auto and then went to the 5 speed that my son & I use for autocross. I still love the 5 speed so much more than the auto but I see your point. I as well love the versatility of the hatch and fold down seats. I still use it to move stuff even though its a fully prepped autoX car. Good luck & enjoy! |
I picked it up today. |
Sweet! Have fun with it! |
Front shocks are gone. Rear bushings are shot. Exhaust leak. Pass window is not working. Headliner sagging. I will be busy. |
That's OK, all pretty easy stuff to do! |
Easy stuffs I agree. |
