Flat towing my 5 speed question. Is it possible to put a second tow hook receiver mount on the driver side? There is one tow hook receiver on the passenger side. I'd like to fab a base plate using the 2 tow hooks so I can flat tow my 5 speed. |
I would not use those hooks to secure to a flatbed. The don't connect directly to the chassis. |

Let me do some investigation. There are 2 318ti at the local pull a part. I plan to get the passenger side bumper support and mount it on the driver side. I can see how they attached to the front cross member. |

I had to bang the chassis to get the bumper to align properly. ADD: Front? I was referring the the rear. But I assume it's the same deal. |
Well I went to the junk yard and got the passenger side bumper shock mount with the threaded piece for the tow hook. It was bolted to the front chassis with 4 6mm bolts and nuts. It looked sturdy to me. I will pull out the unthreaded driver side bumper mount and mount the threaded mount I got from the junk yard. |
Good luck. After being towed I remember I needing to buy a new shock and pound out the frame. Again, it was the rear. I found my original thread. http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28324 |
1 Attachment(s) Well I was able to get a passenger side front bumper mount from the yard and got it installed on the driver side. I am fabricating a base plate that bolts to the threaded mount for the tow hook. The base plate will attach to my tow bar so I can flat tow it. |
