Drivers side rear speaker not working

Hey guys new to the forums here and just bought my 1998 BMW 318TI about a month ago. Already in love with it. A few repairs here and there since purchased. What's really bothering me at the moment is the rear drivers side speaker in the hatch. I have bought a new headunit as the one in it prior was an old sony and was broken. I have a nice Alpine in there now that works perfect. So i decided to start replacing the speakers as i like to hear nice loud crisp music when im driving. I got the right side rear replaced, then did the left side today and it doesn't work at all, no sound. I fiddled around with it for about an hour wondering what could be wrong. I'm stumped and not sure where to start diagnosing as i've never had anything go wrong during the installation of any audio. Any help would be awesome. In included a pic of the setup. Glad to be on the forums! http://i.imgur.com/jOuieO4.jpg

Did the drivers rear work before you replaced it? Swap sides to see if the speaker is somehow defective After you've confirmed all wiring.

I know real dumb, but is the balance and fader set correctly?

BTW, Welcome! Good luck!

No it didn't work prior to changing. The balance and fader are set correctly. The other speakers work fine and I even tested another speaker I have so it's not an issue with the speaker. Something in the wiring maybe?

Sounds like it. First check the connectors at the speaker plat. Doubt it tho. Did the rear speaker work with the Sony installed? Could be wiring at the head unit.

the head unit was my first thought. I was gonna check that out today bit the weather didn't permit. I was having some issues with some of the crimps when putting it in so maybe one came lose. I didn't have the Sony in long enough to remember if it worked with that one in it unfortunately. I will have a look at the head unit this weekend when the weather is better.

Good luck! I know you will be relieved once you find it... [emoji41]
